the laptop is very light but sturdy. The power settings are good and it happily works as my note taking machine all day. Its better than my net book for portability

The track pad tries to do too much and often locks up

Score 1.0/10
Good points:
Light entry level laptop with good battery life.
Bad points:
Seriously faulty design. One of the hinges snapped in normal use and the laptop stopped working as a result 8 months after purchase. Contacted Toshiba to request repair under warranty and was bluntly told this type of fault is deemed to have been caused by misuse - despite the fact that the low quality and bad design of the hinges is quite obvious! After a useless exchange of emails, Toshiba insisted in refusing to honour their warranty and left me with a non-working laptop. Interestingly, I've recently spotted a couple of sites on the internet claiming that Toshiba (in the US) has set a compensation scheme for owners of some of their laptops with poorly designed hinges. Here in the UK - at least in my case - they appear to overlook the incredibly poor quality of this particular product, insist that the broken hinge is the consumer's fault and refuse to honour the 1-year warranty. In conclusion, I am appalled by the way I have been treated by the Toshiba Technical Support and Customer Service. When I bought this laptop, one of the reasons I chose the Toshiba brand was because it is a well-established one and, as such, I expected it to have some respect for customers and to be prepared to accept their responsibility in selling products that are fit for purpose. Unfortunately I was quite wrong. Particular in the telephone conversations I had with the Technical Team, they appeared to be determined to blame the customer even before they saw the broken product, with no worries whatsoever for how the customer will feel. I felt as I had been conned! In conclusion, this was not a happy experience at all. As a result, I have obviously no intention of ever buying any Toshiba products again.

Good points:
Fantastic battery life, very easy to use on the move, performs very well, would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an ultra-portable laptop.
Bad points:
The glossy nature of the casing means that it's prone to fingerprints, but otherwise that's the only negative I can find to this machine.
