Score 3.0/10
Good points:
it is a reasonable size for having a built in optical drive and which was a failing of last laptop
Bad points:
It seems to have a mind of its own regarding power consumption and memory use when browsing teh web. The fan will be running at high speed and the base of the PC gets very hot. The charger cannot keep up with the load it would appear.
It tries to install windows7 SP1 which fails regularly.
Toshiba support is virtually non existent and you end up talking to some people in the phillipines on a chargeable basis which is inexcusable for a machine that is less than one month old. After god service from previous Toshiba purchases this is the last one I will buy

Craig, Slough Business user

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Size, weight, keyboard, connectivity, battery life about 5 hours. Nice solid feel to it. Better than the Sony Vaio Z I sent back.
Bad points:
Screen could be alot better.
Had to buy extra RAM to get it to 4G.
Would have liked an i7 with 250GB SSD as 128 was too small. Maybe they'll do that soon.

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Great keyboard love the ECO mode and the mouse off button excellent software for 3G card so easy to use but no instructions.
Great performance once 8MB is installed
Easy to create recovery discs and remove preinstalled software like McAffee
Very light
My choices for buying at the time were 13" Mac Book Air or high performance Windows laptop better performance and value for money with the Windows laptop especially if you can upgrade the memory. Windows laptop choices were ASUS or Toshiba bought Toshiba because it was a better worldwide brand, warranty upgrade and physical upgradability
Bad points:
Screen is not IPS
Should be an 8MB version easily and economically available had to upgrade from a third party very reasonably
No instructions for the 3G card and software
DVI output would be handy
Poor preinstalled software manual

Steven, Hanoi Business user

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Light, powerful, great battery life, huge amount of useful functions.
Bad points:
This is my 2nd R830-138. My first was stolen, uninsured, but was so good I knew instantly I would replace with exactly the same model. Unfortunately my new machine's DVD drive does not work. I can't afford to have my laptop go away to be mended (because of work), so I am stuck with a dud DVD drive.
