Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Self contained - no removable tapes & discs is a big plus. Dual recorders to allow recording two programs at the same time is excellent. Options to record are good and easy to use. Being able to download updated software, via a computer, is a huge point in its favour, as this will eventually allow any operating software errors to be removed. The facility which allows the program to be paused, is extremely useful and works well.
Generally, I would say this is a considerable improvement on all previous video recorders I have used.
Bad points:
This recorder offers so many options that it takes a while to become proficient with the controls, especially when in a hurry. It is easy to select the wrong button. There is some incorrect programming where the "No" must be selected in order to delete a recording, when asked "Are you sure you want to delete this recording". There is another instance of this when in the "Setup" menu. A number of the buttons on the handset must be pressed very quickly, otherwise the desired selection is not made. This is a problem in the programming that does not povide a suitable one-shot software instructions on all the buttons. The Pause button is particularly bad for this. Basically, when the pause button is pressed normally, the program has been paused, unpaused, paused and unpaused again before the finger can release the button. It is possible that there is an update for the software which will correct these problems. I have not had time to find out about this yet. Another issue I have experienced is the recorder hanging up. When this happens the power has to be switched off because none of the buttons work. The recorder works normally when restarted, but a large chunk of program will be lost. The recorder will often cut off and present a blank screen for half a minute and then resume with a message that it is verifying its folders. I suspect this is more to do with the broadcasters running on low power, together with bad weather, which is causing a poor signal. I am hopeful that this will improve after December 4th 2009, when transmitter power is increased.

Score 10.0/10
Good points:
Freeview playback, CAM slots, Digital audio out.. etc etc... The most feature packed machine out there AND user enhanceable!
Bad points:
7 day EPg could be longer but I think thats a Freeview issue really - takes a bit of time to boot up particularly when loaded with enhancements but nothing serious.

Twin tuners, PiP, easy to use and setting up recordings is a piece of cake!

Excellent piece of kit.
Bad points:
Its a pity there is no PDC, but a firmware update in March is supposed to sort that out.

Clive, Kettering

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
All the features you would want in a PVR that really increases the enjoyment of Freeview. No more arguments about what the family will watch as recording is so easy.
Bad points:
Could be a bit complex for some people, like my Mother for example.
Probably need to add the MyStuff TAP to get the most out the Topfield and, again, this might be a bit daunting for some people. However, adding TAPs is easy for anyone with a bit of computer nouse.

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Easy to use, instructions easy to follow - pausing live TV is great ! Very easy to record, very easy to find your recordings in the archive, and deleting a recording is done with one push of a button
Bad points:
Occasionally the EPG does not show the programmes/timings for that day - doesn't happen too often and is always a temporary glitch. Volume control on the remote not great, has a small range - we use the one on the TV remote instead

Bruce, Purley

Score 10.0/10
Good points:
Excellent PVR, lots of great features (e.g. record 2 channels at once), plenty of memory (over 100 hours of programmes), and a very useful USB port (for transferring recordings to a PC, and adding new software, features etc.)
Bad points:
Default on screen programme guide is a little lacking in sophistication, but you can add user-created software (go to toppy.org.uk) for much better ones, with lots of additional features
