Good points:
Recording to USB stick. Start to watch a programme from beginning whilst it is recording (chase recording). Works very well with a small indoor aerial!
Bad points:
Can't read the recorded files on my PC. No option for series record (although there is an option to record the same time slot)

Geronimus, Chichester

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Straightforward to set up. Only the SD output from the SCART socket has been used so far, but it has performed flawlessly. Out of curiosity I tried out the LAN connection and it easily connected to a networked computer, enabling a video stored on its drive to be watched, but I don't have any need for LAN connectivity. Already have a PVR, so this tuner has far more functionality than I'm ever likely to use.
Bad points:

Good points:
Very capable as it can record Freeview HD to an external hard drive etc and has both analogue and digital sound outputs.
Bad points:
Some menus a bit confusing and epg could be better styled. Takes a long time to switch itself off. So very good but not perfect.

Christopher, Oxted

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Excellent image quality. Easy to set up
Bad points:
The storage medium has to be formatted as FAT32. I found it impossible to format my external disc to this file system. However my memor stick worked fine as it was already preformatted to this filesystem. it is just quite small capacity.

Manufacturer's Description

The HDFV is designed for the reception of the Freeview HD service, offering viewers the opportunity to watch spectacular high definition programming from BBC HD, ITV1HD and C4HD via their existing TV aerial.

The HDFV offers class-leading functionality including multimedia playback from USB storage devices and networked PCs or Network-Attached Storage (NAS) – as well as Digital Video Recorder (DVR) functionality via USB to an external hard disk drive.

Embracing the concept of the connected home, the HDFV can connect to a home network using a fixed connection or wirelessly with the optional TechniSat WLAN Adaptor. Not only does this allow movies, music and pictures to be streamed directly from the PC or NAS to the TV, but ensures access to on-line services such as BBC iPlayer and ITV Player when they become available.
Universal plug and play connectivity ensures seamless operation with all operating systems and offers the opportunity to greatly extent the file formats playable on the HDFV via ‘on-the-fly’ transcoding from supported servers.

The HDFV is ‘DVRready’ to enable live pause, timeshift and recording of programmes to external hard disk drives or memory sticks via the USB port. Recordings can also be edited to add bookmarks, copy or delete sections of video or rename. Files can then be transferred to a PC or NAS for storage.

In addition to this extensive features set; the HDFV offers 1080p upscaling, 8 day Electronic Programme Guide (EPG), low standby power and a three year manufacturer’s guarantee
