Good points:
Once up and running it's not bad for the price.
Bad points:
Not the easiest thing to set up. I bought this for my elderly parents and I ended up having to contact the company directly to find out how to set it up as it automatically wanted to connect to the internet before you could watch anything. Unsurprisingly my 80 year old parents are not on line!
Once past that it's ok.

Good points:
Excellent Picture Quality , HD live and recorded is superb.
BBC i-player works well.
Plays files from external drives or network. Full media player capability in many formats.
Remote control is excellent and also controls TV.
Since the latest update the TV Guide is good.
It is very easy to set recordings. Can be done remotely from internet or phone.
Recordings can be viewed, played and transferred to any computer on the network.
Quiet cooling fan only comes on when hot. Hard drive is quiet and a good size.
We've not had any glitches or lockups since purchase. (Note our signal is strong and of good quality - I'm sure that if we had a poor signal we would have had some issues as with any Freeview box.
Full manuals available on-line.
Don't be put off by all the network stuff if you don't understand it - this box is an excellent HD receiver and recorder in its own right.
Bad points:
Only one - No external indication of recording status.
...Oh ok then, its a little bit ugly :)

Good points:
Good SD picture and great HD, my parents in law were surprised how much better the picture was than their foxsat HD box (partly down to a better tv :))
Easy to use and install(although there isn't a manual so it helps if you know how a PVR works), does seem to need connection to the internet to complete installation correctly.
Has recorded everything it has been set to, unlike every other PVR I've had before. (Humax and Phillips)
Good customer support and bugs are quickly addressed with updates over the internet. (Updated 3 thimes so far in 18 days!)
It's a great idea to have films you can download and BBC iPlayer is well implemented. There is also the facility to sign up to Sky over the internet for a month at a time.
This is the best PVR I have owned so far including the previous market leader and while not perfect, the manufacturer is quickly addressing current problems.
Bad points:
When first installed it would lock up/become unresponsive around once a day, this was solved with the first software update but.....
After first software update the box would sometimes fail to display HD cannels showing a fault with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) and the box would require a hard reset to fix. This was corrected with the next software update and it has been free of any bugs since then (5 days)
I can't comment on other peoples problems with slow response to the remote as I'm using a Logitec Harmony 555 remote and this doens't show any lag or problems.
Still waiting for 5.1 surround sound to be enabled.
At the moment it isn't recognising external USB drives to export to.

Good points:
User interface much improved on previous Technika Hard Disk Recorders, Small Device, USB extension to hard disk, potential extension to Internet. HD upscaler to maximise normal broadcast picture quality. Will be HD when it is switched on.
Bad points:
First: You need to be a bit of a techy to get this running. My smart box would not connect to the WIFI in my house. I had to download the latest O/S version to a USB stick and then manually update the O/S on the smart box. After that it worked fine BUT this is not for people who a) dont do technical things, b) expect it to work right out of the box.
Second: If you are like me, you buy these devices to avoid the claws of subscription. Unfortunately, with this device you are heading in the hands of FetchTV, who require your credit card details simply to register the product, which you have to do in order to get access to internet service such as the BBC IPlayer. You are locked out of being able to bring in other Streaming like ITV or Channel4, or Film hire like LoveFilm.com. Further there is no abilty to browse the web even though you are connected to the internet on the WIFI or direct link. Basically, it is a lock-in to FetchTV.
