Some customer reviews of Teac R3 Dab Clock Radio

Most helpful reviews

Kris, London

Score 5.0/10
Good points:
Stylish, Decent sound quality at low to mid volume, I couldn't find another clock radio that had a built in rechargeable battery
Bad points:
The reception is really bad compared with my pure radio and this one couldn't detect many channels. The clock is set by automatically via the DAB signal - you can't set the clock manually. If running off battery when you plug the radio back in to the mains the clock is usually incorrect (annoying if you're expecting the alarm to go off.) Only turning the unit on and off repeatedly when plugged into the mains makes the clock work again.

Score 3.0/10
Good points:
Built-in battery, reasonable bass quality, alarm and sleep functions
Bad points:
Appears to have a problem encountered by myself and others (reported on the Internet and to Teac Tech Support) where the radio constantly cuts out when in DAB mode between 11pm and approximately midnight for periods of between 5 and 10 seconds. I have another DAB radio and this works OK during this time so it is not a broadcasting fault. Teac tech support have had reports of this but say they are not aware of anything wrong with the design of the radio. I am in the process of returning to Teac for investigation. As this seems to be not limited to my radio and is happening in various parts of the country, I cannot recommend this radio until this problem if fixed.

Score 7.0/10
Good points:
Excellent radio. Well built, solid. Brilliant sound and extremely loud, bass is very good. People think it's my hifi until they see it. Easily plug in the MP3 player with cable included.
Bad points:
Very bad as an alarm clock. The main reason is that the blue display screen is always on which is quite bright even when dimmed. Worst of all, when the radio is plugged in and the battery is charging another blue light flashes. This actually woke me up one night it's that bright. So, the TEAC R3 now sits in my kitchen rather than my bedroom.
