Most helpful reviews

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
I have always been a fan of the Sony Vaio range of laptops with this being my fifth one. This new one has exceptional performance with the solid state hard drive and is very quiet. Sony have put a lot of thought into the design and I particularly like the back lit keyboard - very useful when travelling.

All in all an excellent laptop.

Score 6.0/10
Good points:
Small, light, very fast, exellent back lit keyboard
Bad points:
Very noisey fan. In a machine with no moving HDD to have such a noisey fan is irritating.

Returned it to Sony for having the noisey fan checked out - they said it is with in their margins.

I have had sonyvaio for last six years but I would not spend so much money next time.

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Weight, boot up time (solid state disk), performance.
Bad points:
It has a fan fault where it starts to spin at very high revs which sometimes ends in the system crashing. The on board graphics driver sometimes crashes but usually recovers following a few moments of blank screen.

Good points:
Does everything I need. Screen image quality is excellent. Fast. Good keyboard. Works with all peripherals I've used, such as various data projectors, with no fuss (unlike some laptops from another leading make).
Bad points:
Pre-loaded with MSOffice 2007 30day trial version, and Mcaffee, and other rubbish. I didn't want these as I was intending to load MS-Office 2010, and Eset NOD32. I then found that it is almost impossible to clean out these pre-installed items - especially MS-Office (see the various blogs, even from IT professionals). It took me two days to clean out enough of Office 2007 so I could load my own Office 2010! It is crazy to put these 'force yer to buy' stuff without customer consent. I got very close to needing to reinstall Windows 7 - that's how desperate I was!

Peter, Mutare, Zimbabwe General home user

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Brilliant reflection free HD display, ultra compact, lightweight, excellent performance, fast solid state drive, silent (except for CD drive). This notebook is not only aesthetically beautiful but a marvel of design. A treasured possession. Am using two Iomega 256 GIG SSD's with USB 3.0 Express Card Adapter for blindingly fast ultra-portable backup storage. The VGPBMS15 Bluetooth Laser mouse obtainable as an optional extra is the most compact and precise mouse I have used. Works on all surfaces.
Bad points:
The size and positions of two keys on the keyboard have given problems. The Caps Lock key is too large and easy to press by mistake resulting in longs strings of upper case text being inadvertently typed. An audible alert on pressing would avoid this. The delete key is too small and remote and as it is very frequently used is showing signs of premature wear.

USB 3.0 should be provided in future models.

The VGPBMS Bluetooth Laser mouse uses 2 x 1.5v AAA alkaline batteries which do not last long and are expensive. Lowering the operating voltage would enable rechargeable 1.2v Ni-MH to be used instead
