Bad points:
This is the worst sony product I have ever bought ( of many ) in fact I bought two and one is going back as it broke down over Christmas after only 5 months use.it is not versatile, responds very slowly to the remote and once something is recording it locks the machine off from further use. My previous Sony recorder which I exchanged for this you could watch a different programme while recording and even a preciously recorded programme while recording a new one.....not with this one it is bad technology giving Sony a bad name!

Confirmed purchaser Ordinary family user

Score 6.0/10
Good points:
Easy to record programmes using programme guide, and to playback programmes. Series function appears to work but not yet tested fully.
Bad points:
Remote control is crammed with lots of buttons many of which we don't need. Some recorded programmes had a lot of digital noise on playback: a software update appears to have corrected most of this, but it still happens from time to time. The most frustrating thing is that if you press the off button by mistake, you have to wait for a couple of minutes before you can turn it back on again. Also the programme guide is not as sophisticated as on the TV - it looks clunky, does not have HD channels (unlike the TV), and when you click onto a programme with a truncated name, you don't get the full name (there's no programme summary either). It doesn't let you delete programmes if it is recording one.

Ashley, Axminster Home cinema enthusiast

Score 3.0/10
Good points:
Looks, ability to copy from HDD to DVD, and from USBto HDD
Bad points:
Softwere often hangs, meaning a reset is required, thus not recording what you want, takes far to long to switch on, takes to long to switch between DVD abd HDD, the guide system on recording series, does not check against the name, just record the same time, so if the program changes time the recorder missesit. My BT vision HDD recorder is 4 years old, and 1000 times better for speed, ease of use, never misses a series even on time changes as it looks for the title rather than just recording the time. All in All very unimpressed, and unstable system with limited basic search and record function, and dubbing speed is too slow!

Also very glitchy HDMI, it locks up the entire system quite often and causes communication issues between the TV and Surround sound..
