Score 9.0/10
Good points:
The size and ease of use make this camcorder an ideal companion that is ever ready to capture memories in a shareable form in full HD.
Bad points:
With the advancement in SDHC memory technology I question Sony's insistence on the use of their expensive proprietary memory stick.

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Superb bold and colourful footage in a compact camcorder that fits the pocket both physically and financially.

The ability to have an ever ready high definition camcorder means that you never miss capturing first class action as it occurs, whether that be for wildlife videography, or the unexpected turn of events in general.

Memories are great, to have the ability to easily capture them for posterity is a bonus. With 8 gigabytes of solid state memory on board you would be hard pressed to miss anything on a days shoot.
Bad points:
I just wish that Sony back off with their persistent demand that we use their expensive memory stick. But perhaps this is more of a nit-pick than a bad point because albeit with reluctance, I can live with this situation.

Score 10.0/10
Good points:
The image quality is superb even in standard HD mode!!! Also the focusing and exposure work very well in automatic mode. Because it saves to internal memory or Memeoy Stick there is no motor noise. I've been using it out here in Cyprus for a month now and I'm very pleased with the results.
Bad points:
Low light and night time images are not so good but that's a minor point. The zoom control can be a bit fiddly. The microphone is a bit over-sensitive in windy conditions in normal mode. The LCD screen is a bit difficult to see in bright sunlight but tilting it so the sun shines on to it when shooting, it is clear enough.

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Quality in daylight is excellent and stabilisation is fairly good when zoomed out. Zoom is decent enough. Quick start is great, just open the screen and you're ready in a couple of seconds. Smile-shutter is brilliant - it takes photos automatically whilst filming when someone smiles!
Bad points:
No light, and quality in dim light/night isn't great and quite grainy. No separate battery charger.

Camcorders Buying Guide

Manufacturer's Description

HD quality that everyone can enjoy

Very light, compact and easy to use with great video and still image quality. Full HD recording on 8GB internal memory, or boost shooting time with an optional Memory Stick™.

Small and light enough to keep with you

With less size and weight to carry, it’s easy to slip your camcorder into a pocket or bag: you can be sure it’s always with you, wherever you go.

Natural looking faces every time

Faces can look dark and underexposed in bright, backlit situations like a sun-drenched beach. And if you’re shooting indoors there’s a risk your subject’s skin tone can look unnaturally coloured. The camcorder fine-tunes focus, exposure and skin tone for more natural looking faces.

More smiles every time

Wouldn’t it be great having a photographer by your side, capturing great still pictures of happy faces while you’re shooting video of a party or another special event? Smile Shutter automatically shoots still photos whenever your subject smiles, without interrupting video recording.

Ready for anything

Everyone knows the frustration of fumbling for your camcorder when something amazing happens… And then it’s too late. Flip open the LCD screen and you’re ready to start shooting in a fraction of a second. Standby battery drain is super-low, so you can always be ready to catch that special moment.

Have more fun with your video collection

It’s easy to manage your video clips and photos with Picture Motion Browser for your PC – included free with your camcorder. Sort, search and browse through all your clips and photos in an instant. Burn them to disc, email to friends or upload to social networking sites with a few clicks.
