Good points:
Great stability feature, long battery life, such a nice choice of features.

Heavy but not unmanageable, flip down screen was a must for festival photography.

Video quality is amazing, literally at a level I could film semi-professional.

Cheapest around

Good points:
Perfect if you want great holiday snaps or are interested in getting in to photography.

Great for filming movies.

Nice zoom.

No regrets, very happy :)
Bad points:
The lens cap has no string, you forget where you put it, easy fix, buy one with a string on ebay for £1.50. It would be great if the screen turned all the way in to protect it from scratches when not in use but unfortunately it doesn't. I've bought screen protecters for this camera, again from ebay for a couple of pounds. Not much to complain about, it does exactly what I want it to :)

Excellent zoom. Crystal clear pictures.
Bad points:
Bulky. Nearly as big as my SLR. It takes ridiculous couple of seconds to write to the SD card, unless you put the camera into multi picture mode.

Digital Cameras Buyers' Guide

Manufacturer's Description

This 20.4 mp camera offers the high performance you’d expect from a DSLR camera with a smaller and easy to use design. The DSC-HX300 has a powerful Exmor R™ CMOS sensor that allows you to take sharp photos with plenty of detail, even if you’re shooting in low light conditions such as sunset or a party. It helps to cut out noise in your pictures so you are left with vivid images.

You won’t miss the perfect moment to take your photos thanks to the fast autofocus feature. It quickly focusses on your subjects so you can take crisp photos. It also includes a manual focus mode that allows you to unleash your creative side.

The optical SteadyShot stabilisation means that you can take blur-free images even when you’re zooming in or not using a tripod. Thanks to the BIONZ processor, your camera can shoot continuous shots at 10 frames per second without sacrificing quality.

Getting closer

The DSCHX300 boasts a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T wide-angle telephoto lens that allows you to stay close to the action. It has an impressive 50 x optical zoom that means you can zoom right in to get a closer shot of your subject. You’ll be able to take photos of sweeping landscapes or zoom in for a close-up of animals or people. There’s no need to change the lens either, so you won’t need to spend time setting up your camera before your photo.

Fantastic photos

You’re in control when you use the DSC-HX-300. It has a manual ring that can be used to zoom and focus, custom buttons and a memory mode so you can save your favourite settings ready for when you need them again.

You can also control the aperture and shutter speed manually using the P/S/A/M manual modes.

This camera can also help you to take fantastic photos without relying on you to organise the settings. Intelligent Auto can recognise a range of scenes and will adjust the settings automatically, providing you with the settings you need for a perfect photo. The Extra High Sensitivity mode is ideal in dark scenes such as a candlelit room, helping you to get the best from the lighting conditions. This camera can even detect when your subject is moving and automatically focus on it for clear and blur-free photos.

Add effects to your pictures without the need to use image-editing software using the range of effects stored on this camera.

Panoramic photos are also simple to capture thanks to the Panorama mode. Simply press the shutter button and sweep the camera to capture your photo, whether it’s a scenic landscape or a packed party.
