Good points:
The Sony DCRHC27 uses mini tapes and is very easy to operate, I used it for my last cruise holiday, spend time reading the manual to get more efficient. It includes a night shot for poorly lit areas, plus a backlight as well, for some other units you have to pay a lot more to get these as they are classed as extras.
Its lightweight and fits snugly into the palm of your hand with a strong velcro strap, with an intuitive LCD touch screen exactly like a VCR with FF RW Pause and PLAY, so full marks for this. I would definately recommend it as a first user camcorder unless you can afford the DVD ones, and is it was well worth the money I paid, a true bargain for a highly efficient easy to use product.
Bad points:
Obviously the battery as it only lasts approximately one hour, I recommend buying a second one or more to keep fully charged and take with you in case the first one runs out. The only other gripe is the zoom in and out button, which is situated on the top of the unit, so you need to remember to have your finger near to it to or you'll cause camera shake trying to reach it, I personally think it would be better moved to the side of the unit.
I've now purchased a mini tripod to eliminate camera shake when its windy and for panning, just to make it look smoother and more professional.
