Score 1.0/10
Good points:
Nice size and weight for convenience.
I was looking for a camera that I could film with, then view straight away on the TV, as well as download to other formats, eg PC, DVD.
I'm not sure yet if this camera fits the spec.
Bad points:
The instruction manual is very difficult to understand. Especially when formatting the disc...this just doesnt make sense. According to the manual, formatting in a certain way restricts how you edit later...I couldn't make head or tail of it! Bad start!!
Don't understand the bits about internal memory either.
Haven't found all the features yet, they don't exactly spring out, and the manual... :(
When trying to transfer recordings to PC, the wizard and the manual don't match up. Took ages to work out, and I still don't really get it.
Please produce a manual that's better worded, in English!!. NOT one that's translated from Japanese and doesn't make sense!

G, Professional videographer

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
ease of use is instant just load and go, taking pictures could not be easier just flick the switch from video to picture mode
loads of storage space for pictures via the memory stick, there is now double sided disks, up to an hour on each side,
As with most camcorders today there is a massive zoom capability.
These disks are ready to play in home dvds or computers and are well priced if you look around, Sony recommended.
There is loads of software included to make your own productions, I highly rate this product, as good as tape
Bad points:
I will let you know when I hit one.

Camcorders Buying Guide

Manufacturer's Description

Simple shooting and playback

Simple shooting and playback on DVD with powerful 60x optical zoom. SteadyShot image stabilization, plus Face Index and Film Roll Index for easy searches through footage.

Get closer than you’ve ever been before

It’s like packing a telescope with your camcorder. This incredible 60x zoom range makes sure that distant subjects fill the frame. You’ve never seen such amazing, detail-packed close-ups.

Close-up on clear, sparkling audio

You don’t want to be distracted by background chatter, rustling leaves and other off-camera noises when you’re focused on your subject. This super-smart microphone zooms in on the action when you do, letting you see – and hear – everything in close-up.

Find your footage

With hours of footage stored on your camcorder, it can be hard tracking down a particular scene. Face Index helps you find shots containing faces in an instant. Film Roll Index cuts longer recordings into shorter ‘chapters’, making it quicker and easier to find the right moment.

Ready for anything

Everyone knows the frustration of fumbling for your camcorder when something amazing happens… And then it’s too late. Flip open the LCD screen and you’re ready to start shooting in a fraction of a second. Standby battery drain is super-low, so you can always be ready to catch that special moment.

Have more fun with your video collection

It’s easy to manage your video clips and photos with Picture Motion Browser for your PC – included free with your camcorder. Sort, search and browse through all your clips and photos in an instant. Burn them to disc, email to friends or upload to social networking sites with a few clicks.
