- Good points:
- Great Picture - When it works!
- Bad points:
Don't touch one with a Barge Pole!
Put simply… These sets are completely unfit for purpose. And Sony know it!
I bought one of these sets, not for its advance features, but to use in a fairly standard way to receive off-air broadcasts and switch sources through my surround system. – I should explain that as a trained broadcast technician with over 36 years experience; A/V equipment normally presents few challenges to me…
Sony have provided no sensible way of editing the satellite tuner channel list; and even if you do manage to modify the channels to suit yourself, the set will randomly delete the channels YOU want and replace them with those you don't! – This is true also if you use an external editor to work on the list via your PC.
If you have a surround system – and hope to route your Blu Ray player (or whatever) through the set – you have the choice of living without surround sound, or living without lip-sync! The set only 'passes through' synchronous audio when in PCM mode… Otherwise introducing an audio delay that causes the picture to lead the audio by 2-15 frames or so. The delay varies from player to player (I've tried a few) and even disc-to-disc.
Those using soundbars have reported similar problems. ARC support is, by my own experiments with around six or seven devices hit-and-miss. There is no guarantee that the set will work with even a fairly new item.
So… Satellite and HDMI don't work… You'll also have to deal with the set 'freezing' and just going off! On average, at least once a day, you will need to power-cycle the set to re-boot it!
That's BEFORE we get to the 'advanced' features! - Using YouView means killing your satellite reception for instance… Sony have been promising HDD recording for months and keep putting the date back; apparently now not due 'till March 2015… There is trouble with things like Netflix for instance…
And it's not as if you can get away from these 'apps' and just use the TV as a TV… The User Interface (UI) is ridiculously-badly designed! Even if you don't use 'apps'; you'll be left with some on your 'home' screen that if accidentally accessed will crash the set!
Sony KNOW about all the problems with these sets… They were released in May 2015, have been the subject of HUGE outcry and as of late December 2015 all that's been demonstrated is that Sony can't make them work. What's more, there is some evidence of Sony trying to 'stifle' fully justified criticism of their sets… Even allegations of blatant censorship…
There is another software update on December the 24th…Time will tell if it fixes anything, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Really… Save yourself the grief… Just don't buy one in the first place!

- Good points:
- Slim neat design
- Bad points:
- we kept it for one month before returning it to the retailer as unfit for purpose. This TV is not ready for sale. It crashes regularly requiring rebooting. We updated the software twice, first update stopped satellite working unless you Disabled Youview second update stopped Wi-Fi working. The picture quality is not good, despite much adjusting, ( I am a computer engineer so familiar with the technology). I am shocked that Sony can sell a product in such an unfinished state . Don't even consider buying this box of trouble.
