Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Image quality is good for such a versatile lens at the price, for my use on a medium price DSLR. Macro works well and being used at a 1 metre distance is less intrusive than a close-to compact digital on sensitive subjects. The lens works very well so far on automatic focussing, though I generally use manual focus. Images are exposed correctly, giving consistently satisfactory results. Distortion has not been a noticeable problem, and I expect to get a lot of use out of this excellent lens.
Bad points:
I am not sure yet if I will regret the gap between the 55mm top end of my basic lens and the starting point of 70mm on this additional one. Depth of field problems are to be expected and worked around at upwards of 70mm. Also, due to the overall weight of camera and lens, the regular use of a tripod is needed, particularly at slow shutter speeds, to help avoid camera shake, even when using in-camera image stabilisation. However, these comments would apply to any lens. So far I have had no problems with this one.
