Good points:
Cannot fault it overall, superb value for money, easy to use and picture quality on the TV is great
Bad points:
a slight gripe that microphone picks up wind noise and tv seems to enhance that and no built in HDMI socket on camera, but docking stations sorts that out...... i'm being really picky and it should'nt put of potential buyers as its a great bit of kit

Good points:
Since this is my first digital video camera I am astonished at what it can do. I now have the potential of any Hollywood director. Editing in the camera is fantastic. You could have made clear there was no card with the camera. I have purchased a 8 Gb card - 5 hrs at the TD setting -fantastic. Sound recording is astonishing as well. It handles drums and trumpet without any distortion. Also I was not aware what came with it - the docking system is perfect for down loading or watching on TV. A point that you should advise on is that that at the HD setting the picture will flicker on the computer, does this mean my sound card is not man enough for the job. This condition is mentioned in the instruction manual but no computer advice. It's OK on TV and downloads to Youtube perfectly.

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
The picture quality is excellent and the stills photo's are very good. You can use the basics and still get good quality picture and photo's. I haven't had the time to find out all the functions yet but I am extremely happy with what I got at the moment. It is very lightweight so you can put it in your pocket or handbag.
Bad points:
I can't think of anything yet because I haven't explored all the functions but what i've seen it would suit a lay person like myself or someone who is more experienced taking phot's and pictures.

Score 10.0/10
Good points:
Very small and light, fits in my pocket. Great 720p quality, very easy to plug into my PC for video editting, or my TV via HDMI to showoff footage immediate in HD quality. Easy to use, and generally a great product. Maybe that's why ive ordered 2 already :-)
Bad points:
Some of the covers are a little flimsy, not ideal to take SD card in and out all of the time, same with lense cover - feels a little cheap compared to the rest of the camera. Not amazing in low-light, but certainly the best ive seen for the price tag.

Camcorders Buying Guide

Manufacturer's Description

The compact Xacti HD700 is shaped for comfortable one-handed shooting on the run. It’s the ideal movie camera to match your active, on-the-go lifestyle. HD movies on the Xacti HD700 are recorded in the high-compression MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format. As the movie files are small, they’re easy to upload to the web for podcasts or weblogs. An electronic image stabilizer helps keeps your movies smooth and steady, while the 5x optical zoom and 12x digital zoom let you zero in on the action while it’s happening. The supplied docking cradle gives you a raft of connection options. By connecting the unit (via USB) to an external hard disk, you can back up your movies and stills without having to access a PC. The cradle also sports HDMI and component video connections, for high-quality playback on a connected HDTV.
