Good points:
The remote control is apparently the same across all Samsung products which makes it easier to explain its use to another person. In this case it was my 90 year old mother who was very worried about having to change sets due to to digital upgrade in the area which was about to take place imminently. It also caused a great concern for her that once the new TV was installed she could not, as she incorrectly assumed, carry on using the analogue set until changeover day ( about 5 weeks hence). No problem I sat down with her and the new set with its Big-Button remote control, switching on and counting one and two until reaching ten, when the screen lights up (she would have been switching it on and off to soon otherwise), changing to her favourite channels and back again and finally switching off. Starting all over again after each cycle. Seeing the pie chart volume control displayed on the screen (a boon for good for the neighbours as she's a little deaf) was also very re-assuring.
Unbelievably she had mastered it within less than an hour of switching on and was able to continue to watch all the rest of the evening unaided. I would recommend this set especially with the backlit LED screen to anyone but especially to those whose ability to master anything new is limited by age or similar restrictions..........
SIMPLY A GREAT SET.
Bad points:
The connections for the Scart lead is a bit fiddly especially if having to remove it as I had to. (I found it easier to run the TV at my house and deliver it to my mother's knowing how to operate it) Also it doesn't really explain fully (at least I couldn't find anything that alluded to it in the hand book) that the set is run through a voltage reducing box and not straight from a 13 amp plugged lead straight from wall socket to a 2 pin socket to plug in to the TV as is usual on other recent electrical products I have bought.
However I wouldn't put these as any reason not to purchase a marvellous product from a very logical thinking manufacturer.
