Score 10.0/10
Good points:
It's surprisingly light for such a large laptop - I tend to use it at home most of the time but don't have any problem taking it out on the road.

The screen is lovely, very bright and clear, no dead or damaged pixels. And with 17.3 inches of desktop space it really makes using it a lot easier. Despite being a glossy screen, reflections aren't too bad though obviously this depends on the lighting wherever you are using it.

Keyboard is quite good - some reviews weren't too impressed with it but I quite like it.

The laptop isn't too loaded with bloatware (trials, special software etc) and what is there (MS Office 2007 trial, McAfee trial) are pretty easy to remove. The Samsung Update software is pretty good and not intrusive.

I am particularly impressed with the Samsung Recovery Solution III software, which makes it very easy to keep snapshots of your setup (including the initial setup). I've not had to restore from an image yet but it seems very straightforward.

Sounds is quite impressive for a laptop - and it even has a speaker underneath (subwoofer?).

And on a silly point, I quite like the glowing blue trackpad surround!
Bad points:
As it's a fairly cheap processor, it doesn't have Intel VT (Virtualization Technology) so Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 won't run on it (it will install but then doesn't load up any virtual machines. However I am looking at using Sun Virtualbox as it doesn't rely on the CPU being VT-enabled but haven't had a chance to try this yet. Hopefully the large RAM (about 3.2GB available to the system in 32-bit Vista) will be useful for that.

Linked to this, it's a shame it comes with 32-bit Vista installed, rather than 64-bit, as it doesn't make full use of the 4GB of RAM installed. The Samsung website does list 64-bit drivers so I'm going to switch to that at some point soon (probably once the Windows 7 drivers are available).

A minor point: when you power up the laptop for the first time, it prompts you to partition your drive into C: and D: drives (the backup disk images are saved to D:), which may throw some non-technical users. It initially suggested splitting the available space (about 295GB as the hidden recovery partition uses about 6GB) directly in half, whereas you're much better going with a smaller C drive (about 45GB is good) and then having a much larger D drive, thereby separating OS and data in case you do need to restore from a backup. As this is a one-off action, non-technical users could just go with the suggested setup and not get the best out of it.
