Good points:
This model wins emphatically on looks. There is the minimum of surrounding frame around the screen and it's oval base is much less chunkier than the rectangular ones found on most other models. Touch sensitive on/off controls are unobtrusive and located in the bottom right hand corner (although these can be caught too easily here when swivelling). I lost out on the Sony Bravia as the wife fancied this TV more! The menus are easy to navigate and you can quickly make the adjustments you desire. For instance if you are watching a film, you can switch to movie mode within a few clicks (this mode is easier on the eye for longer viewing). Out of the box settings can be too straining on the eye for some (dynamic mode and gharish colouring), but these can also be easily adjusted. It is possible to keep different customised settings for each source. For example: Source 1 can be left in Games Mode if you have a games console attached and if Source 2 needs different settings for a PVR than set for the DTV own channels, these can also be kept.
Bad points:
The jury is still out on the picture quality. This being my first excursion into the HDTV market, I was expecting more from the picture, even though this is not a 1080P model. I am particularly disappointed with picture clarity while watching sporting events. Unless my eyesight has suddenly deteriorated, the TV doesn't handle movement very well, with some blurring occurring despite tinkering with the many picture settings available. Some fixed objects seem to move about as well, it being particularly disconcerting when someone's nose does this. It is possible however that my aerial isn't up to the job and I'm going to treat myself to a new digital one just in case. If it's possible to report back I will do. One of the features I chose this TV for was Picture in Picture (PIP), so I was very disappointed to find that this only works with external devices attached via HDMI (such as a PC or a games console). Don't base your purchase on this feature if you are expecting to be able to have 2 tv channels on your screen at the same time. I did a lot of research beforehand, including comparing models on Samsung's own website, and the limitations of this feature were not explained. The remote control isn't very responsive, and unless you hold it in an exaggerated manner towards the TV, it takes a few clicks to do what you want. There are only 2 scart sockets so invest in a scart switcher to increase connectivity (this is an annoying limitation on most TV's however). Those concerned about the environment will not be happy that, unless you unplug the TV from the mains, it is permanently in standby.

In summary: Despite many good aspects of this purchase, a TV must be judged primarily on its picture quality and I'm not totally happy with this yet. This is why despite high scores in all the other areas, I have given it an overall 6/10.
