Malcolm, converted barn deep in the country Spoken-word listener

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
sound quality -- easy to pick up and carry -- screen has large clear text -- back light is good -- best point is the duration of use without connection to power supply, during the last few weeks there has been little proper sun here in Wales, I think about where I place it but even with a fair amount of indoors use it has not needed a top from the mains in 3 weeks.
Bad points:
I want to use it outdoors while gardening so it can get mucky. I had the Mk 1 and used it the same way, it suvived the muddy hands but not being left out over night in the rain. making it waterproof would be nice but perhaps expensive but a washable waterproof carry bag would be an accessary I would buy, in the mean time a zip lock bags works but does nothing for its looks. I'd also like to be able to choose to take the arial out and replace it with a flexible wire.

Good points:
Attractive --I like the White soft touch exterior. the Batteries charged quickly and the tuning was relatively easy .
The manual is sometimes difficult to understand, but I am happy with the radio.
Bad points:
Sound is not as sharp as i expected on DAB, my old 35yr old Roberts can easily compete with this new one.

Radio tuner DAB and FM

Also known as: Roberts, Roberts SOLARDAB2-RED, solarDAB2, Roberts SolarDAB

Manufacturer's Description

Roberts introduce the next generation solarDAB radio. This stylish and compact DAB/FM portable radio has a solar panel integrated into the top of the unit which absorbs direct sunlight in order to power the radio. There is an LED solar and battery indicator and under good conditions, there is sufficient power generated to charge the batteries and power the radio.

SolarDAB 2 enables you to use your normal AA batteries or rechargeable AA batteries. The radio will charge your rechargeable batteries with a flick of a switch. Once fully charged, the low power consumption of solarDAB allows the batteries to power the radio for up to 20 hours without the need to recharge them. The radio can then be used away from sunlight or mains electricity until recharging becomes necessary. The batteries can be recharged either by sunlight or using the supplied mains adaptor if there is not sufficient light available.

solarDAB is ideal for use in gardens, conservatories, greenhouses, on suitable windowsills, or away from home while camping, fishing, at the beach, or anywhere that you wish to listen to the radio away from conventional power sources.
