David, London Point & shoot

Score 4.0/10
Good points:
Feels robust and comfortable in the hand. Seemingly good quality construction. A printed manual is enclosed - not standard practice anymore but very welcome. Screen resolution is fantastic with very high pixel count. Noise reduction can be switched off - apparently not standard on point-and-shoots. Macro images are superb - best I've seen compared with other cameras in price range.
Bad points:
Poor still image and video quality. In the end I found images to be very good outdoors in good sunlight but anything else is poor. Compared to my old Canon Powershot A95 (6 years old, 5mpx, 3x zoom), images are just not as sharp in general circumstances on this and several other point-and-shoot cameras i've looked at, all of which have received generally good reviews. In a point-and-shoot camera I want to be able to do just that. With this camera and the latest Canon Powershot, I found that this did not bring very satisfactory results although the Ricoh performed much better than the Powershot. The 720p video performed similarly to most cameras I've looked at in this price range - ie. not very sharp - the Ricoh additionally seems not to be able to refocus very well if you use the zoom while shooting footage.
