Score 10.0/10
Good points:
Definitely not what I intended to buy, due to adverse reviews, but fortunately I went to Comet Middlebrook where they have taken the trouble to set up all makes and models for the public to play with. Fantastic facility, the only retailer I could find in the Manchester area to do so.
1. Clear comprehensive hard copy manual supplied.
2. User friendly controls.
3. Auto colour, brightness, backlight and low light with manual overrides and enhansements , which I haven't used yet.
4. Good re-focusing on subject change.
5. Totally useable optical 78x zoom, without a tripod, due to Panasonic's supurb optical image stabiliser system. Far more effective than others digital/electronic i.s.systems.
6. and with macro down to 2cm, making wild life readily recordable.
7. Duel memory, video on HDD and stills on SD if you wish.
8. I think I am fairly discerning and am sure purists will fault it, but for the happy snapper it is a great piece of kit.
9. Aka SDR-H86 at Currys. According to Panasonic the same but grey, but support Comet they try harder.
Bad points:
1. Not High Definition, but I am not a great fan, as I find it is often too crisp and clinical. Colour and brightness is not a problem with this camcorder.
2. Mechanical lens cover. Good, one less electronic item to go wrong, but must be closed when not in use to save the lens. You should buy a UV filter to save the lens and improve your pictures.
3. Some manual settings are cancelled when the camcorder is switch off etc. I don't know if this is good or bad.

Liz, Pontefract Keen amateur

Score 10.0/10
Good points:
Very use to use with a range of impressive features this mini cam is the ideal companion. It's lightweight and durable with a clear image on the LCD monitor and extensive 80GB memory capacity plus the option of using a memory card. The battery gives hours of recording time and you have the choice of long play recording. Images remain clear when using the zoom function and it is possible to take still photographs while filming. Playback is easy with each section of filming able to be viewed separately.Terrific value for money - a class act at a very reasonable price.
Bad points:
None so far.

Tim, Farnborough Just point and shoot

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Very simple to operate and set up. Light weight so easy to carry - especially if going on holiday!! Zoom is very good - used at rifle range for sighting on target and advising where shots were going!
Bad points:
Wind across microphone sometimes drowns out voices. Low light images poor quality / grainy. Battery supplied has short life before re-charging. Recommend upgrading to bigger battery for prolonged filming.
