Good points:
I already have a Lumix Digital SLR camera but wanted one i could carry around all the time. The ZX1 has very similar controls and features including the IA (Inteligent Auto) and Lecia lenses. very happy with it so far.
Bad points:
I'm glad i've got finger nails the buttons are very small, but so is the camera so i supose you can't have it both ways.

Good points:
Small and light for what it does - seems to be made well, it functions!
Bad points:
Too much hype about this camera, or the rest must be rubbish! picture quality is not all that fantastic. some where along the way, the picture gets grainy and noisy - is it bad electronics or bad jpeg compression ? I don't know. when you pay this much for a camera, instead of all the gizmos, Panasonic should have included a RAW image format for quality.
I have seen better! my ten year old 4 mega pixel canon camera, shooting in RAW mode, beats this by a mile, when it comes to picture noise.
Certainly not a winner ..

Good points:
Good point and shoot and I like the burst, and the trimming feature.
Bad points:
Would prefer to have an instruction book as opposed to having to download. Some of the instructions are not basic enough for me as I am not technically minded.

Digital Cameras Buyers' Guide

Manufacturer's Description

Compact Digital Camera ZX1 – 25mm Wide-angle 8x Optical Zoom LEICA DC Lens in a Ultra-compact Body

*LUMIX Compact Digital Camera
*POWER O.I.S. Hand-shake Blurring Compensation
*25mm Ultra Wide-angle 8x Optical Zoom LEICA DC Lens
*Seamless Operation with Quick Start-up Time and Ultra High-speed AF
*iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode with Face Recognition
*HD Motion Pictures and HD Output
*Travel Mode for Easy Organizing Photos and Movies of Travel

POWER O.I.S. is about twice as effective as MEGA O.I.S. at reducing low-frequency vibration-caused blur when pressing the shutter button or shooting with a slow shutter speed. So you can take beautiful night shots without blurring. Activating POWER O.I.S., Intelligent ISO Control, Face Detection AF/AE with Face Recognition, Intelligent Scene Selector, Intelligent Exposure and AF Tracking, the camera does all the work in the iA Mode. Face Recognition function recognizes registered persons’ faces and optimizes the focus and exposure settings.
The DMC-ZX1 features a 25mm ultra wide-angle 8x optical zoom f/3.3-5.9 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens (35mm equivalent: 25-200mm). Panasonic achieved the world’s first incorporation of 0.3mm super thin aspherical lens and industry first 0.3mm spherical lens into the newly developed lens unit. This makes it possible to fit the 25-200mm high performance lens in a slim and compact body. Furthermore, in 3-megapixel resolution, the Extra Optical Zoom function provides additional magnification, extending the zoom power to 15.6x (35mm equivalent: 390mm).
To realize the ultra high-speed AF, a number of re-engineering and improvements are made including the adaptation of a higher-speed actuator, the optimization of algorithms and the parallelization of software processing element. The result is ultra high speed yet accurate AF performance for users to enjoy the airy shooting that has experienced never before. Panasonic also replaced its linear program processing with parallel processing to achieve an ultra high-speed start-up of approx. 1.1 seconds.
The DMC-ZX1 can record motion pictures in high-definition (1,280 × 720 pixels at 30 fps in Motion JPEG format). The pixel mixed readout method enables bright motion-picture recording even in low-light settings. It also lets you use zooming when taking motion pictures. When viewing, with HD component output capability, you can enjoy watching HD motion pictures in stunning HD quality taken by your DMC-ZX1 by simply connecting the camera to an HDTV via an optional component cable DMW-HDC2.
One of the unique features of the DMC-ZX1 is the Travel Mode. From the top menu, you can quickly go into the mode and organize various information related to your travel such as destination, date, world time and so on. It’s also easy to play back images by designating the date or period of travel on the calendar menu interface.
