Good points:
I took this little camera with me on a short break to Marrakesh without the instructions (on purpose, extra weight only had 10kg hand luggage). I did not need the instructions, it was very easy to use and work through the options. The zoom lens was great for taking free photos of the events in the Medina at night, if they see you taking photographs they try and get you to pay for them.

Good points:
Absolutely fantastic camera. We used it to photograph our wedding in Las Vegas and it performed superbly in bright sunlight, at night with neon signs, taking quick shots of fountains, aerial photos of the Grand Canyon.... the built-in features makes it so easy to get fantastic quality images with one touch. No need to play with settings, although can do so if desired. Great battery life. Very clear screen. Excellent pics. Good at reducing shaky hand - fast shutter speed. Excellent "intelligent auto" function automatically selects the best mode to use, so no fiddling at all. We enjoy taking pics but are no experts and we have a FANTASTIC lot of over 1000 photos of our wedding and honeymoon from this little camera. 10/10. Would definitely recommend.
Bad points:
Can't think of any at all. Just brilliant.

Digital Cameras Buyers' Guide

Manufacturer's Description

Compact Digital Camera FS30 – 28mm Wide-angle 8x Optical Zoom LUMIX DC Lens and iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode with Advanced Scene Detection. The DMC-FS30 features a 28mm wide-angle 8x optical zoom LUMIX DC VARIO lens (35mm camera equivalent: 28-224mm). The 28mm wide-angle lens lets you easily capture large groups of people indoors or expansive architectural structures and scenes with dynamic width and rich perspective. The 8x optical zoom lens captures beautiful shots of people or landscapes with 14.1-megapixel resolution. The Extra Optical Zoom function uses the center part of the CCD to extend this 8x zoom ratio to powerful 16.9x zoom at a resolution of 3-megapixel or less.

In iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, 4 detection functions work automatically and simultaneously to optimize your settings, making it easier than ever to take beautiful photos every time. The iA Mode includes MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) to detect hand-shake, Intelligent ISO Control to detect subject movement, Face Detection AF/AE to detect faces in the frame and Intelligent Scene Selector to detect scene conditions. Sunset Mode has been added to the Intelligent Scene Selector.

To realize the Sonic Speed AF, a number of re-engineering and improvements are made including the adaptation of higher-speed actuator, the optimization of algorithms and the parallelization of software processing element. The result is ultra high speed yet accurate AF performance for you to enjoy the airy shooting that has experienced never before. Panasonic also replaced its linear program processing with parallel processing to achieve an ultra high-speed start-up time.

The DMC-FS30 can record motion pictures in high-definition (1,280 × 720 pixels at 30 fps in Motion JPEG format). The pixel mixed readout method enables bright motion-picture recording even in low-light settings. The DMC-FS30 can also record stunning full-size motion pictures in WVGA (848 × 480 pixels at 30 fps) or standard motion pictures in VGA (640 × 480 pixels at 30 fps) and QVGA (320 × 240 pixels at 30 fps).

The DMC-FS30’s large 2.7-inch LCD features high 230,000-dot resolution Intelligent LCD. It automatically adjusts the brightness in 11 steps according to shooting conditions. This LCD provides sharp, clear images in virtually all shooting situations, ranging from nighttime to bright daylight scenes. In addition, the High-angle Mode makes the display extremely easy to view from a low angle, for example, when taking photos by raising your hand upward to capture the subject over the crowd.
