Ross, Edinburgh Keen amateur

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
1 Good size ad weight, ia little big for some pockets but fits on a belt pouch perfectly.
2 Filming is easy.
3 Has a good 12x filming zoom.
4 Films really well in low light (better tho if switch from iA to low light made)
5 Takes prity good pics at night if in flash range, and in good daylight.
6 Water proof (already used it on slides and in coral reaf and wow)
7 Feels well built
8 takes large hdsc memory cards
9 looks cool
10 good size easy to move screen with good colour.
11 captures colours very well
12 picked up second battery for £15.72 delivered
13 5x zoom for pics is normaly ample.
14 digital anti shake works far better than expected, almost as good as some opticals
15 I paid £230 and i see in now at £240 :-)
Bad points:
1 Buttons are a bit fidle but you get use to them.
2 Not much good for night scenery pictures when to far away for the flash.
3 Lens size is 35mm for pics(thats fine) but is 42mm for filming(not to bad) but with them being diferent when in filming mode and take a pic its a wider angle picture than you see on screen and the reverse is true for filming when screen is in pic mode (however you can set a hot key to flick back and forward with eas, i would recomend this)
4 No lens cover( tho so far no scratches or such)
5 pics sometines dont seem as clear as filming(it is a comcorder first)hence 7 not 10
6 as good as no built in memory(how cares)
7 the zoom on filming and pics are not the same(tho both are ample for use)
8 digital zoom is shocking(arent they all)

David, Shifnal, Shropshire Just point and shoot

Score 5.0/10
Good points:
Small, Good enough zoom, Picture quality not bad. Works well out of water.
Bad points:
Stopped working 3rd day in the water. All maitenance instructions followed correctly but camera would not operate. First zoom stopped, then camera wouldn't switch off, then eventually wouldn't swtich on. Holiday of a lifetime (snorkelling with humpback whales in Tonga) but no photo record after 2nd day. On arrival home camera had to be returned to Curry's to be 'fixed'. Now have it back but don't know when or if I'll ever use it again.

Ross, Edinburgh Experienced amateur

Score 7.0/10
Good points:
Good size for carrying and for use.
fast flash recharge for taking pictures rapidly in the dark/low light.
Looks fantastic
Well built
nice zoom(once you work them out)
good price
water proof
film and take 2m pics at the same time
Bad points:
iA mode is not so good, even when it gets the setting mode right its still not as good as manually changing it
(This is most noticed in low light and under cloud and in water, don not recommend using iA for filming, fine for pics)
there is no 5mp 8mp 10mp picture modes and the 12mp is only wide screen mode.
Overall picture is not as good as hoped
(my mobile phone camera is as good for daytime stills and better for low light filming clarity, don not no where the BSI goes when filming in low light.

Camcorders Buying Guide

Manufacturer's Description

Take the HX-WA10 underwater as deep as 3 meters for up to 60 minutes, and get some great photos or videos in a pool or the ocean. Swim along with tropical fish, capture shots of a beautiful coral reef, or get action footage of a friend snorkeling. Waterproofing also means you can shoot in the rain or snow with no worries. * IEC60529 IPX8 * This does not guarantee no destruction, no malfunction, or waterproofing in all conditions.
Even with its light weight and slim design, the HX-WA10 renders images in breathtaking, Full-HD (1920 × 1080) beauty. BSI (Backside Illumination) sensor technology has improved the sensitivity of the CMOS sensor, making it possible to shoot images with high-resolution Full-HD quality even in dimly lit areas. * “Full-HD video with 1920 × 1080 pixels” in Panasonic Dual Camera refers to video recordings with 1920 pixels in the horizontal direction and 1080 pixels in the vertical direction.
The HX-WA10 shoots 16-megapixel high-resolution still pictures. Depending on the situation, you can flexibly shoot either high-quality photos or videos by using only the thumb to press the desired button, without having to change modes.. You can also capture 2-megapixel still images while recording a video by simply pressing the Still button.* * Varies depending on the Video mode used for shooting.
In addition to an optical 5x zoom, the New High-Quality Image Engine of the HX-WA10 lets you shoot videos with a maximum 12x Advanced Zoom with no image quality degradation.* You get a flexible shooting range, from wide-angle to dynamic zooming. * Only for video recording at 30p. When shooting photos, the maximum zoom is 5×.
With both phtos and videos, iA does the bothersome settings for you and makes it easy to capture beautiful images. Intelligent Scene Selector analyzes shooting situation and automatically switches the camera to the suitable scene mode. Face Detection automatically senses the ambient lighting and adjusts the exposure accordingly, so faces are bright and easy to see, and E.I.S. (Electrical Image Stabilizer) helps to correct hand-shake blurring. * The functions included in iA may not be applied when conditions do not call for them.
