Score 8.0/10
Good points:
The camera is so light. And it is so small it is so easy to take with you. The quality of the videos is great, and the camera snap shot option is pretty good too. I am really pleased with this. And for a camera of this quality for under three hundred it's a bargain!
Bad points:
You don't get a case with it. And to work out all the special features etc is a bit confusing. Also when uploading on to a Mac you have to put the videos on iVideo which always takes ages to load.

When windy microphone picks up the noise. Need to get a new computer to be able to view, edit and burn the videos smoothly.

David, Wallsend Experienced amateur

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Full of features. Very light. Excellent picture quality. Focussing seems faultless - not one out of focus shot. Best with the higher capacity battery - which I got from internet. Small enough to carry anywhere. HD software is very useful and enables easy basic editing. Editing can also be done on the camera - scenes can be deleted or split.
Bad points:
With so many features it takes some learning. A bit awkward to hold with the hand strap. Touch screen inevitably needs regular cleaning. Otherwise great.

Camcorders Buying Guide

Manufacturer's Description

Full-HD Compact Camcorder Featuring 16x Optical Zoom and Advanced O.I.S. with Active Mode

Weighing only 227g (0.50 lb), the HDC-SD10 is the light weight camcorder and offers fatigue-free use even for long shooting sessions. Its compact size lets it fit into the palm of the hand, for anywhere, anytime recording of high-quality, 1920 × 1080 full-HD images. This compact camcorder can be easily slipped into a handbag or a pocket, ready to capture video images with snapshot ease.

The high-powered 16x optical zoom clearly captures even distant subjects, while the Advanced O.I.S. minimises blurring. This stabilization function is essential for preserving full-HD image quality when zooming, where hand-shake increases proportionally to the level of magnification. Advanced O.I.S., which detects and corrects for hand-shake around 4,000 times per second, combines with the 16x optical zoom to produce clear, stable zoom shots. And because the function is optical, there’s minimal loss of image quality.

Panasonic’s Advanced O.I.S. helps suppress the effects of hand-shake as you shoot, for both motion and still images. The new Active mode also extends the hand-shake correction range to allow shooting while walking or otherwise moving. Its powerful corrective effect reduces the kind of hand-shake that often occurs when shooting on the move, to ensure crisp, clear images.

The HDC-SD10 features the iA (Intelligent Auto) function, which automatically activates several convenient shooting functions. These include the AF/AE Tracking, which automatically tracks a moving subject for consistently beautiful results. Once you touch a selected subject on the touch-screen and lock onto the subject, AF/AE

Tracking maintains the focus and exposure even if the subject moves or turns to one side. This records the subject with the optimal AF/AE (Auto focus/Auto exposure) settings.
The HDC-SD10 uses an SDHC/SD Memory Card as recording media. In addition to bringing significant advantages to smaller and lighter camcorder, the SDHC/SD Memory Card also differs from a hard-disk drive because it has no transport mechanism, making it highly shock resistant and enabling faster recording start, 1.9-sec Quick Power-On, or Pre-Rec function. These functions are especially helpful in capturing sudden shooting opportunities. * Inclusion of an SDHC/SD Memory Card varies by market.
