Score 10.0/10
Good points:
Out of this world Full HD. 11million + pixels for movie! (The deep black for example, is pretty much broadcast quality)
Still Camera 14+ million
Mic and Headphone Line in.
Simple to Use.
Side replacement of battery helpful, save messing about taking it off and on tripods.
Manual control ring near lens = manual control over many functions. Focus, white balance etc.
Time lapse function
Bad points:
If you use Final Cut Pro on an Apple, the Panasonic 1090i/50fps format needs to be converted. However get hold of Aunsofts Video Converter for Mac or their "iMedia Converter"
Toast deals with this ok too. They convert AVHD with no loss of res etc to use in FCPro.

If you record using an external mic with mains power, there's a slight hum from the camera's internal Hard Drive. A studio situation is when I'd most use an extended mic. Not the end of the world... using the battery with an external mic is perfectly clear, just means a problem if the record lasts longer than the battery. You'd have to change the battery (if you have a spare) mid filming.

Plus points defiantly out way any negatives

Score 7.0/10
Good points:
Performs very well under extreme conditions. Produces excellent picture quality, even in subdued lighting conditions. Have recorded two full gigs of approx 2 hours each with no problems encountered. Unlike my Canon HG10 which continually stops recording when the music gets too loud.
Bad points:
AGC cannot be turned off in IA mode
Instruction manual is very basic, especially with regard to the advanced features

John, Hamilton, Scotland Just point and shoot

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
The HS700 is quite simply, a fantastic camera which produces top sound and picture quality. It's comfortable to hold, especially with the slight upward curve toward the back that makes the zoom switch and photo button easy to reach. Storage and retrieval is easy form the inbuilt hard disk or SD Card. Copy the files from the hard disk or the flash drive and convert them to .mov files or import them alongside 1080i footage.

The HS700 also fits comfortably in your hand with all the major controls falling within easy reach of your finger and thumb. You get a good range of sockets and ports too, including microphone input and a full size cold accessory shoe. Panasonic has even managed to make controls on the touch screen logical, quick and easy to use.

The most novel capability is face recognition, which seems to work similarly to the way it functions in the company's still cameras. You can register up to six faces in the camcorder's memory with names, priority (for AF and exposure) and a custom focus icon. It identifies them during recording, but not playback.
Overall, the video quality is really good and like all HD camcorders, it looks far better on a TV than on a computer.

Important note if you are purchasing this camera....In the box there is no case for the camera; therefore I would suggest purchasing a case for approx eleven pounds to protect your investment.
Bad points:
One downside so far... I really dislike the placement of the connectors inside the LCD, since that means it's got to be open while you're attached to other devices, which is just kind of awkward.

Camcorders Buying Guide

Manufacturer's Description

HDD/SD Card Hybrid Full-HD Camcorder featuring Advanced 3MOS System and 35mm Wide-angle Leica Dicomar Lens

The HS700’s high-sensitivity 3MOS system has achieved 11.49 million effective motion image pixels (3.83 megapixels x 3). This new image sensor offers beautiful images with significantly better colour quality, detail and gradation than the 1MOS sensor system. The large-diameter F1.5 Leica Dicomar Lens, newly developed Crystal Engine Pro, and this high-sensitivity sensors have improved the efficiency of light gathering, increased sensitivity, and reduced noise by one-half to provide users with bright, low-noise recording even in dim lighting.

New 1080/50p recording (Full-HD, 1920 × 1080, 50 progressive recording) conveys about twice the information of 1080i (interlace) recording to produce the ultimate beauty in image quality, exceeding even conventional Full-HD images. It minimizes afterimages and flickering caused by subject motion and renders crisp, detailed images. 64GB SDXC card can record approximately 27 hours 30 minutes of 1920 × 1080i High Definition video in HE mode, and approximately 5 hours 20 minutes of 1920 × 1080p full High Definition video in 1080/50p mode.

The O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), which uses gyrosensors to detect hand-shake and moves a corrective lens to adjust the optical axis and eliminate blurring, has further evolved. While the conventional O.I.S. system could not sufficiently eliminate low-frequency hand-shake, the new POWER O.I.S. is able to correct it about five times more effectively. The new O.I.S. also features an Active mode to assure clear, beautiful images across the entire range from wide angle to telephoto.

The 12x optical zoom lens is further enhanced by Intelligent Resolution Technology in the Crystal Engine Pro image-processing circuit, to produce the new 20x Intelligent Zoom. The new zoom achieves even greater image detail. And HS700 is also equipped with a 35mm* wide-angle lens that is ideal for many different shooting situations, such as self-portraits and group photos indoors, and landscape shots outdoors. * 35mm-lens equivalent.

The iA function includes Face Recognition feature that recognizes the faces of previously registered subjects, and automatically optimizes the focus and exposure for those special people. It continues to track the subject as he or she moves anywhere within the LCD frame, making it ideal for video shooting. It is extremely useful for capturing someone’s face in a group. Names can also be registered and displayed on the LCD while shooting. A total of six people can be registered, and up to three people at a time can be detected when shooting.
