Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Once mastered, the kit works well - especially the improved picture quality of old DVDs. New DVDs (non-Blu-ray) perform well, and Blu-ray DVDs are excellent in both picture quality and sound. The machine is practically silent in operation. Firmware updates are available if you like that sort of thing.
Bad points:
The Panasonic instruction book assumes the purchaser has a high interest or pre-knowledge in modern electronic kit - not just the Blu-ray player itself. Low-tech people like me found the book intimidating. I just want to play rented film DVDs. I do not want to connect to 'BD-live' or 'VIERA CAST' or a 'home network'. Accordingly, much of the booklet is too complex, so in the end, I found myself guessing what to do next while installing the player. Additionally, I find I am expected to understand 'Firmware updates' which the book says are 'very important' - and which, in order to install an update, needs access to the internet. Hard luck on those who don't have access. Last thing: the player doesn't come with a cable to connect to your existing TV! I thoroughly recommend buying the Panasonic own-brand HDMI connecting cable (online, about 17 pounds sterling). This ensures best performance, and my experience bears this out.

Good points:
Not sure, as it didn't work.
Bad points:
I purchased this player from Dixons as a birthday present for my partner. Unfortunately, the model they sold us was clearly faulty, as it cannot read any of the discs we try in it, all of which work fine in our old machine. The player has now been collected by Dixons, who were supposed to send us a new one, but over a week later this still has not happened.
