Confirmed purchase: 17 Dec 2009

Mark, Derby General home user

Score 7.0/10
Good points:
Good, sleek design with a rolled aluminium finish exterior, this Packard Bell certainly looks like a very nice laptop. Opening the lid the keyboard is well set out, and the keys are firm and responsive, making it easy to type those important business reports, or your web blog, or similar.

The wide screen is clear and for a laptop is quite large. Whilst on battery the power controls kick in to lower the screen brightness to conserve the battery charge, (you can turn that power option off if need be), when being used from mains electric, the screen is bright and of good quality. As with all laptops, there is an optimum screen angle with which to view the screen.

The laptop comes with an internal wireless card that, with Windows 7 Home Basic, makes connecting to a network very simple. When I started Windows for the first time after unpacking it recognised my home internet connection immediately. All I had to do was have my password ready. Windows 7 also recognised my home network straight away as well, and connecting up to my other computers was a breeze.

Windows 7 is the key here. It is such a friendly Operating System that it makes the initial setup work so much easier than previous Windows OS's.

Packard Bell's Welcome Screen on startup offers many useful options, the most important of which, in my view, is the step by step process for creating full Recovery Disks. That makes it easy, and helps give peace of mind in the event of any problems that might arise in future.

This PB laptop is nicely designed and performs very well. It's integrated graphics card means that it will never compete with higher performance gaming PC's, but it plays DVD films without difficulty. A very good, all-round laptop
Bad points:
As with most laptops, the internal sound speaker is not particularly impressive, and so external speakers would be required for anything requiring sound.

For a laptop it is heavy. Not a problem if it is to remain static situated, but perhaps not a machine that could be carried around for any length of time.
