Good points:
well built and works perfect on dx format cameras the range is perfect for a walk about lens and 16 mm gives you that extra 2mm at the wide end over other standard lens. the shining glory of this lens is nikons vr 2 which in low light and slow shutter speeds performs excellently hand held. if your looking too upgrade from a kit lens or have one lens too stay on your camera then this has too be it. the af is slow but were you need lightning fast focus your likely to also have a suitable fast glass prime overall it compliments any dx format nikon greatly
Bad points:
af is slow for the price, a price which i think is a little too much for this lens

Good points:
Pretty sharp...C/A not too bad... well constructed... flare control O.K... nice zoom range...sensible 67mm filter size.
It seems to be well matched to the D300/90/5000 sensor. Find one at the right price and it's a wise choice.
If you get to know this lens and exploit its considerable potential you'll be very happy with it... no lens is perfect
but I think Nikon's got most of the bases covered with this one.
REMEMBER TO TURN OFF THE VR WHEN USING IT ON A TRIPOD ( this applies a bit more to the 70-300 VR) or you'll
get distorted fence posts and the like.
I would finally recommend that (as I do with all zooms) you don't use the extreme ends of its range... nip it back a little and check the MTF figures for the f/ stop to use at different F/L's (PHOTOZONE Lens Reviews has the best info.)
Bad points:
As you'd expect... distortion's a minor problem but a couple of clicks in P.S. and it's fixed.

Not a BAD point but be aware that this is not a professional lens and will not respond well to monsoon conditions.

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
decided on this lens as it fits in with the tokina 11-16 and the 70-300 perfectly. it has a really solid feel to it nice and tight zoom and the image sharpness is very good.its also not as heavy as the pro lenses which makes it ideal for the traveller. very pleased with it indeed.
Bad points:
no bad point's really. would be nice if it was faster, but then it would have to be heavier, like the pro lenses and having the VR function, which really works a treat, that's not really a concern.
