Paul, London Graphic Designer

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Easy to install and operates smoothly.
Bad points:
Do not like the new interface. Ugly and over complicated. Much prefer Windows 7. Fingers crossed, they improve things with the next OS.

Alex,

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Nice OS, with some improvements to the standard features compared to Win7.
Bad points:
Becomes quite painful to use as a desktop OS without third party programs to restore the real start menu functionalities. Without this option I would never have bought Windows 8.1

Kenneth, Glasgow Professional mathematical computer user

Score 6.0/10
Good points:
It works because it's simply windows 7 with a reorganised front end. Almost all my software reinstalled without a hitch, even the 32 bit stuff for which I have not updated my licenses because they meet my current needs.
Bad points:
Initially you need to rediscover how to do things, but its easy once you get the tiles are out of the way. It's undisguised profiteering by MS. It's a lot of money for a product that seems to be essentially Windows 7. Operating systems should essentially be cheap because it is the oldest of all computing technology.

Once Android becomes more mature I shall definitely be looking seriously in that direction provided it supports my commercial software.

David,

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
I bought this mostly to get the Windows 10 upgrade. Being a Windows 7 die hard I expected to hate it, but I actually quite like it. I've not had a huge amount of time on the new PC but the big icon based app navigation replicates what most now see on their mobile devices and Windows 7 views (such as the desktop) are still available. Folder views are also enhanced and generally I think it seems to run a little smoother.
Bad points:
Some advanced controls seem harder to find and settings a little clunky; some of the simplified views actually make things more complicated for the advanced user and I was extremely frustrated with how difficult it is to change network types (compared to Windows 7).
