A double-butted aluminium frame with disc brakes and a carbon fork. A true go anywhere, do anything bike. Durable, versatile and fast, the Merlin CX 2.0 is likely to become your new favourite bike.
Designed in Britain. Built in Belgium.
The Merlin X2.0 is a lightweight and efficient all terrain blaster. It’s capable of tearing around cyclocross race courses with its rapid responsiveness. It’s exceptional at exploration too. Tarmac, gravel, grass, mud, hills, valleys… whatever. It’ll go there.
Its sloping compact geometry makes for a confidence inspiring bike handling experience. You’ll be nipping and tucking, bobbing and weaving with the best of them.
The carbon bladed fork has been specced to keep things from becoming harsh up front. Carbon is a great material for reducing buzz and tremor. The alloy steerer is 1-1/8th too, further helping prevent any undue discomfort or excessive stiffness.
There is plenty of tyre clearance in the frame and the fork. And with the use of disc brakes rather than mud-hugging cantilever brakes there’ll be no issues with mud-plastered tyres spinning around.
With full complement of mounts the bike is ready to sport mudguards and even a rear pannier – so if you fancy making it into a fun commuting bike, you can. No problem.
As with all Merlin bikes, the build kit is a great mix of performance and practicality. The drivetrain is predominantly Shimano’s super reliable 105. The Gossamer chainset is supplied from FSA and comes in a cyclocross specific ratio of 46/36T. The rear cassette is a broad 11-28T range so the bike is capable of dealing with all speeds and all gradients. The frame is a standard BSA threaded BB shell.
The disc brakes are Avid BB7 Road with a 160mm rotor up front and a 140mm rotor at the rear. Once you’ve tried disc brakes you won’t ever want to go back to rim brakes ever again.
As well as being more consistent and controllably powerful in all-weathers, disc brakes are much more fit-and-forget than cantilever cyclocross brakes. Easier to live with. Uncomplicated.
The wheels are a particular highlight on the X2.0 – Fulcrum Racing Sport Disc shod in high quality Challenge Grifo 32mm Pro tyres. A bike’s wheelset has a massive influence on how a bike rides and feels, so we’ve not skimped in this vital area.
The static finishing fit is from 4ZA. Seat post, saddle, bars and saddle. Well made, unobtrusive and durable.
