Good points:

I use the head for digiscoping where a smooth movement is needed to locate subject quickly .The head needs to be vibration free and ridged when taking the photo. This head provides these feature whilst still being relatively light ( less than Ikg ). Although the head is marginally heavier than the lower priced Manfrotto heads the smoother operation is worth extra weight and cost. I have used it several times and photos have improved.
Bad points:
The plate needed is different from one on previous manffrotto head.

Luís,

Good points:
Once you get use to it - and it's easy - it's really good. I've made some films with it, it's very smooth and moves in every direction, diagonally also, just perfect for what I needed.
Bad points:
I wish it wasn't so expensive, but I guess you pay for what you get.

Claire,

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
It was between this and the 501.
I tried the 501 which was supposedly better all round.
The 501 is not a fluid head, it uses teflon plates which stick.
The 701 is butter smooth and much better than the 501 for small cameras. (up to 5KG)
I cannot stress this enough, unless you have a very heavy camera, stay the heck away from the 501.
Bad points:
The pan tensioner is in a strange place but I just need to get used to it.

Makes a very small monopod useable as a belt-supported rig for video shooting. Brilliant!
Bad points:
There is not enough space to get your fingers in to release the sliding plate. A fiddle.

Good points:
Feels solid, well built and designed.
Smooth panning and tilting, due to fluid head.
Perfect for my 7D with a medium sized lens, not really all that mini.
Safety lock on the plate.
