Alan,

Score 3.0/10
Good points:
Initially I had great difficulty loading the video driver for the capture device. The drivers are rather obscurely installed into a folder on drive C and not into Windows drivers folder. I eventually got it working but Magix technical support were not very helpful. The video capture works well with good synchronization of audio and video. Particularly good is the scene recognition which splits the video nicely for insertion of transitions etc. A really nice feature is the video stabilization option which removes the wavy line at the bottom of the capture screen. This was a problem linked to my camcorder and not the product itself.
Bad points:
The biggest let down was that the final production, whether a dvd or a stand alone mpeg file suffers some noticeable degradation in quality. The outcome was a disappointing movie. Other capture software I have used produces far better results.

Damon, Guildford

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Not too difficult to set up although as you would expect you may have to detach your video from it's normal home to allow for the length of cable. Picture quality is OK although of course slightly less than the original but very acceptable and will last longer than the tape of course.
Bad points:
It does take a while to record in real time and then save but who care's really, this is all about preserving your tape archive so there is no huge hurry in any case.
