Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Performance
Screen quality, colour accuracy and resolution
Keyboard feel
Battery life
Quiet
Build quality
Bad points:
Touchpad which I use only for three TrackPoint buttons. Whilst I am used to it now, after about six weeks of use, it is not as good as the three separate buttons on previous ThinkPads. I manage OK but it feels less ergonomic and the middle button for scrolling can be a frustrating as you need to be very accurate in where you apply pressure.

Nothing to do with Lenovo but too many applications handle the high resolution screen badly and very small text is the result which is unusable for me. I use the W540 for photo editing and Adobe Photoshop CC is unusable at 2880 x 1620. The temporary solution until the apps improve is to use at 1920 x 1080. The screen clarity is excellent even at this lower resolution and the colour accuracy makes it worth taking the IPS 2880 x 1620 display. I look forward to getting the full benefit when apps are improve. Don't be put off by this as 2880 x 1620 is more about clarity and resolution on a 15inch screen than squeezing more on and is very good down at 1920 x 1080.

Good points:
Runs heavy-duty applications smoothly - amazing performance.

Doesn't overheat and has well build-in cooling system.

Screen resolution can potentially make certain viewing incredibly detailed and high res.
Bad points:
Just a bit too heavy to be practical.

Several programs do not run this screen resolution and end up somewhat blurry (stretched).

Design is somewhat too simple and blocky; it could be worse but could be better.

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Have been buying IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads for past 15 years - consistently brilliant products. Keyboards are excellent.
Fingerprint sensor very useful. Performance always good - you get what you pay for.
Each Thinkpad I've had has lasted 5 years each.
Bad points:
New keyboard layout with additional numerical keypad takes getting used. Overlaying volume/microphone buttons onto Fn keys is a step backwards - I used to use Fn F2 button regularly to put into sleep mode but that is no longer possible.
I would have liked a separate microphone socket alongside headphone socket.
Integrated buttons on trackpad are quite difficult to get used to.

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Powerful, well built, rugged, not too heavy given it's a powerful workstation. Out of the box it's easy to use and great being able to customise they keyboard, such as swapping Fn and Ctrl keys round, and locking the Fx keys to their proper function, not the multimedia setting functions!
Bad points:
Touch pad takes getting used to as there are no separate left/right mouse buttons, the whole touch pad is a button which you click in different places to get left/right mouse buttons.
