Score 6.0/10
Good points:
(I bought it without monitor).
-Good value, good spec
-Picture quality/graphics is better than my xp pc, even with same monitor. e.g. viewing photos.

Bad points:
-There is no windows 8 COA sticker on the computer, and there was no written explanation for its absence. I believe that the authentication code is stored on the motherboard, so authentication is semi-automatic. Why couldn't they tell me that?
-Windows 8 is annoying, because it sometimes tells me that I have to "swipe" the screen, even though it is not a touchscreen computer. Sometimes it does not even give me an alternative to swiping.
-Comes with pointless bloatware installed, same as all other pc's, but still disappointing.
-The LAN connection is called "BTWiFi" in W8, even though it is a LAN connection. This is confusing and does not occur on my other home computers.
--Fitting a second harddrive is fiddly but possible. There is space inside (but the layout does not make it easy).
-Ok so my review sounds pretty negative but admittedly my experience would have been the same with most other w8 pc's from the high-street. It was good value, nothing was broken, so can't complain too much. Most annoyances are with W8 and not the computer.

Good points:
Haven't found any yet. Still, I've only had it for a fortnight.
Bad points:
Can't connect to internet via wireless, only ethernet cable. Windows 8 is a NIGHTMARE to get used to.21" screen that came with the pc is not big enough to display everything. Pointing the mouse is so hit & miss trying to find the "Charms" that this machine is virtually Charless. Do yourself a favour & steer clear of this. pc. Cheap? Yes. Does it work? Only in raising blood pressure!

Manufacturer's Description

Work and play with the effortless everyday performance of the HP Pavilion 500-242ea Desktop PC.

Wonderful Windows
The Pavilion 500-242ea boasts the expressive Windows 8 operating system and is the ideal platform for controlling your entire digital world with ease.

The home screen is based around live tiles, customisable program icons that show updates from a wealth of compatible programs and apps. From keeping up to date with news and sport to receiving up to the minute information from your social network, Windows 8 makes sure you won’t miss a thing.

There are improvements coming to Windows 8 with the launch of the free 8.1 update. These include the reintroduction of the Start button, new Live Tile sizes and adjustable four-way multi-tasking windows along with developments to the lock screen, search and more.

Powerful processing
The Pavilion 500 is powered by an AMD A8-5500 APU. An APU is a processor that features an integrated graphics card and provides excellent processing power, crisp graphics and low power consumption from a single unit.

An impressive everyday clock speed of 3.2 GHz makes the AMD A8-5500 more than capable of taking care of most computing tasks. From everyday word processing and web browsing to more specialist tasks such as photo and media editing, it provides quick computing that won’t leave you waiting.

Multitasking and demanding processes are aided by 6 GB of RAM. This helps the Pavilion 500 to work on more at once, making for a smoother computing experience no matter the task.

Serious storage
A large 1 TB hard drive provides storage for your entire family’s files, documents and media. Backing up is simple too thanks to the USB 3.0 ports that make light work of copying even the largest of files to external storage.

Glorious graphics
The AMD APU features AMD Radeon HD 7560D & R5 235 dual graphics. This provides crisp everyday computing and ensures you get the best from high definition films and media. It’s also capable of playing many popular games, making the Pavilion 500 the ideal introduction into PC gaming.

Ready for the future
You needn’t worry about keeping up with technology thanks to four free PCI slots. Suitable for graphics and sounds cards along with any other hardware you may find yourself needing, the Pavilion 500 is ready for the future.

Convenient connections
Connecting to your preferred screen is easy thanks to the DVI connection. Getting online is simple too thanks to built-in WiFi and a high speed Ethernet port for wired network connections, while the supplied mouse and keyboard allow navigation straight from the box.

In addition to two high speed USB 3.0 ports, there are also four USB 2.0 ports which make it easy to connect peripherals such as webcams, external hard drives and more.

Enjoy fast family computing with the HP Pavilion 500-242ea Desktop PC, which boasts a smart and space-saving compact design.
