- Good points:
HP has a very good support assistant, keeps the computer drivers, and system up to date. Performance if excellent, in fact the video card had been upgraded from what was advertised, to a GeForce GTX 770.
The display is very good.
- Bad points:
- Not enough printed information for setting up, could cause a problem to new comers, in connecting it all.

Take your gaming to the next level with the breathtakingly powerful HP ENVY Phoenix 800-030ea Desktop PC.
Gaming with Windows
Windows 8 is the perfect OS for serious gaming. Pared back and less demanding on resources than previous editions, it lets your components work on what’s important.
Whether you use a touchscreen monitor or prefer a mouse, navigating the new home screen is as simple as a swipe or click. You even get the choice between the customisable home screen and the more familiar traditional desktop display, letting you explore the new layout and content or simply flipping back to what you know.
The Start screen now features Live Tiles, handy windows into your favourite programs and games that deliver important info and updates straight to your desktop – perfect for chatting or keeping up to date with stats on the fly.
Cloud integration lets you set automatic back-ups to important files and games saves, meaning if you choose to upgrade components or find yourself gaming on a friend’s machine, your precious saved game data is easily retrievable – simply log in with your email address to access your entire saved content library in seconds.
The Phoenix 800 is powered by a ferociously fast Intel® Core™ i7-4770 processor. A deeply impressive base clock speed of 3.2 GHz makes light work of any everyday task while a TurboBoost speed of 3.9 GHz obliterates any task you can think of.
Four physical cores support up to eight individual processes thanks to Multithreading technology while a vast 6 MB cache lets the i7-4770 process multiple tasks instantly, making it perfect for even the most demanding games and intensive creative software.
Whatever the task, you can count on the i7-4770 to make it happen.
Processing and multitasking is supported by a huge 16 GB of DDR3 RAM. Ramped up for intensive gaming and handling even the largest of creative projects, you can be certain you won’t find yourself needing more.
Files storage is provided by a faintly ridiculous 3 TB hard drive. Capable of storing an obscene amount of data, you won’t be filling this anytime soon.
It also runs at a handy 7200 rpm, giving you access to your data when you need it and helping to reduce the long load times of modern games.
A gaming rig depends on its graphics card and not wanting to be let down at the highest hurdle, the Phoenix 800 comes good with the incredible NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680. With 2 GB of dedicated graphics memory, an average dynamic clock speed of 1058 MHz and 1536 CUDA parallel cores, it’s a seriously powerful piece of kit.
So regardless of whether you love games like World of Warcraft, Bioshock Infinite or Call of Duty, you can rely on the GTX 680 to deliver maximum graphical performance at gloriously high FPS.
While the generous spec of the Phoenix 800 will stay current for years (in particular the processor and RAM), we all know that eventually gaming PCs need the odd upgrade here and there. This isn’t an issue as there’s plenty of space inside the modern, stylish case for a whole host of upgrades.
With space for up to three HDs or SSDs and a further two optical drives, memory won’t be an issue while five spare PCIe ports are perfect for adding cards and hardware.
Changing or upgrading is easy too courtesy of tool-less access to the case and internal components.
It’s your choice how you connect your monitor thanks to a HDMI and two DVI ports that deliver beautiful high definition content to your preferred screen. Just make sure you prepare for mind-boggling visuals in everything from games to film.
Four USB 2.0 ports provide ample connectivity for peripherals while backing up to external media is faster than ever courtesy of four USB 3.0 ports.
Integrated WiFi provides easy access to your digital world though an Ethernet port permits a cable connection should you prefer.
Built for powerful performance during the most demanding situations, the HP ENVY Phoenix 800-030ea Desktop PC delivers the ultimate in gaming, media and creative computing.
