Has the distinct advantage of being pre-loaded with Windows 7, with an option for Windows 8 if that ever becomes fit for purpose, and the £100 cash back makes it value for money.

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Extremely good value for money - there was a £100 cashback at the time I bought, although beware, HP take 3 months after purchase to pay you.
This model is Windows 8, but "downgraded" to Windows 7. It comes with Windows 7. That's what I wanted, Windows 8 is a very difficult to use operating system on a basic PC without touch. If Microsoft ever sort it (and 8.1 doesn't go nearly far enough) then the upgrade option exists. That's a great plus!
Otherwise it is a basic laptop, but works very well with more than enough power for basic office tasks / email / web browsing etc - in fact everything except playing the latest resource intensive games.
It also has 6GB memory and a 750GB disk, more than usual.
I recommended this model to several people who bought it (at the time of the cashback) and they are very pleased also.
Bad points:
Therew's no separate numeric keyboard, so choose a different model if you need one.
There's no USB3 port. This means backing up takes a little longer, but if you don't need USB3 speeds, this doesn't matter.
It feels much less strong than my old Thinkpad. I hate to think how well it will survive a knock.
