Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Firstly the small dimensions and light weight of the camera ensures that its your contant companion on days out. The long range zoom lens coupled with extreme macro close up ability enables you to cover just about any photographic situation that you are likely to come across.
The layout of the controls and the menu system to access some of the functions was largely intuitive and I only needed to glance at the manual once or twice initially, from then on it was plain sailing!.
The electronic view finder was bright and clear as was the large 3" main LCD screen enabling easy composure and a visual check on the focusing.
Most of the set up on the menu system was of the 'set once and leave' variety, and most other regularly changed functions were covered by a combination of buttons on the rear and top of the camera. These were largely self explanatory, and anyone who has used a digital compact should feel at home here with the controls on offer.
The lens was fairly fast at obtaining correct focus in line with similar types of camers using this system, although as with other cameras the focusing can be 'fooled'.
For me, the movie function with its ability to film in HD (high definition) on a camera of this price range was a deciding factor in purchasing this model, coupled with the fact that the format (AVI) can be handled by Microsoft Movie Maker (unlike other formats) really swung it in my favour.
The camera altough made of plastic had a good quality feel about it and should survive normal knocks and bumps durning normal use. Having said that I thought it prudent to fix and LCD protector in place as a precaution against scratching as the screen is flush with the body with no protectibe raised lip surrounding the screen.
In the still photo shooting section you have a facility to shoot at hight speed in various degrees of quality depending on the mode you choose. This can be useful in action situations and can enable you to capture otherwise 'lost' shots due to shutter lag times.
The flash performed well over the range of the zoom settings, and no noticeable vignetting was apparent at the wide angle of 28mm (35mm equivalent) in a normal size room, it also performed well at close settings apart from macro, when the flash, due to its position on the camer,a was not effective in this situation.

To Conclude:

This camera with its high spec and 'super zoom' lens offers the photographer the chance to enjoy a wider range of phographic situations not usually available on 'compact' syle cameras, and has to be said, on a lot of DSLR type cameras as well. This coupled with the small size, light weight and high spec., it must surely be high on the list of most photographers, and for somone moving up from a small compact to a 'proper' camera, I can highly recommend this camera as a great choice!.
Bad points:
Having sung the camera's praises in the above review there are a few areas where things are left wanting.

Focus:
The focusing can be 'fooled' in certain situations,e.g. lack of contrast of the subject, shooting through glass, moving objects. On occasions, this focusing problem can be frustrating, esp. when trying to quickly grab a shot.
Having said that, I think its quite a common fault on many 'auto focus only' cameras.

Shutter lag:
Compared to other digital cameras I have used, the shutter lag is a little slower, and can result in missing that 'moment' in picture taking, so be aware.

Movie clips:
Although the ful zoom function can be used during filming, the sound of the zooming motor is quite obtrusive on the sound track of the movie when played back. Probably not so obvious in a noisey enviroment, but could be a problem say during a wedding service or speech.

Filters:

There is an absence of a threaded filter ring on the camera lens. This is not uncommon on this type of (Bridge) camera but something to consider if you intent to experiment with filtration. There are adapters available on Ebay which clamp to the outer casing of the lens and allow filters to be fitted, so all is not lost!.

Battery life:

The batteries that come with the camera (Alkalines) are next to useless and in common with othe Alkalines only last long enough to learn to play with the camera and thats it!.
Far better to get a decent set or two (4 batteries per set) and an automatic charger with built in discharger.
I have been using Ni-cads made by Sanyo called Eneloop. These are a new breed on Nicads that hold thier charge over a much longer period than usual. At the moment I am impressed with the performance of these batteries, and they are much the same price as normal Nicads.

To conclude:

Most cameras have thier faults, if you can accept this, then this camera is no worse than others in these areas.

Good points:
I was looking for a better type of camera rather than the normal compact type but the cost of SLR was far too much. This camera gives you everything you need at a fraction of the cost of SLR. If like me you want a camera for holidays, family photos etc then buy this one.
