The long 8x Fujinon zoom lens on this camera is equivalent to 25-250mm on an old-school 35mm camera, which covers all focal lengths from extra-wide to get everything (or everyone) in, to long telephoto to pick out distant details. You can also shoot close-up details thanks to the 5cm close focus capability. At longer zoom settings and in poor light, the combination of the optical image stabiliser and extra sensitive CCD image sensor keep your pictures sharp.
