Geoff, Woldingham Retired engineer

Score 5.0/10
Good points:
Have not had it long enough to tell either the good or bad points, it worked straight out of the box, not too difficult to fit, a little tricky to get the pipes and drain out through the hole to make it neat but did manage to do it, very quite in operation both inside and out. So far so good.
Bad points:
I had course to call the help number of Electriq, as when I removed the blanks from the inside unit there was a hiss of gas? As I was not shure what gas it was I called to ask. Not very friendly at all, as I was not a refrigaration engineer they would not tell me anything. As it happens I found the information on the Internet.

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
thermostat accuracy is much better than trv on a radiator. heats up room very quickly on a high thermo setting and can be set down to desired room temp within 30 mins. not that difficult to install for a competent diyer- quick connections rather than the cheaper 'easy connections' (actually rather technical in spite of name). as cheap or cheaper than gas to run in spring/autumn/ mild winter days. more expensive in sub 5 degree temperatures but much much cheaper than storage heaters at any time. bonus of air con on hot summer days. supposedly last much longer than gas boilers without annual service or check (for landlords). potential to avoid gas standing charges which can mitigate or eliminate the cheaper gas in cold weather. if you provide more than one heater in multi- let property you don't have a freezing house and long wait for gas service if boiler goes down in cold weather (and big electrical bills for landlord or tenants if electric fan heaters used for a week). could even have a spare heater on standby but there is less to go wrong than with gas central heating. cheap option to heat outbuilding if too remote to extend gas radiator network (i have a 6m x 4m log cabin as a common room and 12000 btu heater works well but have 3 inch insulation floor, ceiling and walls)
Bad points:
in colder weather they are less efficient but not really a problem over 3 winters so far in south east uk. the quick connections can be a bit awkward so worth watching an installation video. i have a dozen now in a multi-occupancy let building (I live in one flat). Cheaper to have one unit (air to water) supplying whole building with oversized radiators but wanted to provide air con for tenants and have flexibility to charge tenants separately for heating as inclusive rent discourages sensible heating use. supposed to have gas engineer install and you lose 5 year guarantee by diy. not sure if any maintenance such as recharging gas is necessary ongoing (if system is sealed gas should not eascape, should be like a fridge or freezer in this respect). if you have an air to water system professionally installed you could get renewable heat incentive from government .
