Some customer reviews of Dewalt DWS778 250MM COMPACT SLIDE MITRE SAW

Most helpful reviews

Anthony, London Carpenter

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
I use this saw on the floor, I like the solid base unlike my previous Dewalt saw which had screw in feet that were useless. The light is handy. Dust extraction not bad for small cuts - gets worse the further you pull the blade out. Smooth action, overall I'm pleased with it.
Bad points:
The material clamp would be better if it had enough thread on it to clamp down on the saw bed when not in use. As it is it tends to fall off during transport.

Good points:
Easy to use, and if you need a saw with good dust extraction (site work with MDF) then the take-off on this is the best by far out of the 4 we have on site.
Bad points:
This saw would be better with a carry handle on the top (like the Bosch), other than that it's spot on.

Good points:
I have always used dewalt products so I may be a bit biased toward them, but I also have a bigger version of this saw which I've had for about 13yrs and still going strong, it's just sometimes to big to cart around, so I brought this one, a little bit smaller and lighter and so far doing a great job as I would expect if your spending this sort of money.
Bad points:
So far I've got nothing negative to say about it.

Ade,

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
I've owned and used a good number of Mitre Saws over the years and I'm impressed with this one. I've got a Festool Kapex in my workshop but needed something for smaller jobs out and about.
Amazing capacity for such a compact saw. It's based on the old Elu/DW701 saw and has the same small footprint but I used to have one of them and wasn't that keen on the stiff slide mech and poor dust extraction (vac attached).
The DWS778 is a much better saw in these areas and it's lightweight making it easy to carry around.
Bad points:
No adjustable depth stop for doing trench cuts. Not a deal-breaker for me but a point taken off the funcionality score.
Difficult to see the XPS shadow line in bright light. A laser would be slightly better.
