Good points:
Good, sturdy monitor. Uses mechanical buttons rather than touch buttons (as on u2410) so easier to use menus. Good range of connection options. Looks amazing on PC. As good as you'll get for Mac outside of Apple display.
Bad points:
Not quite as sharp and nice for macs as the Apple thunderbolt display.

Score 7.0/10
Good points:
Price. Great resolution and colour. Adjustable, tilt-able stand. Ships with DVI cable and USB hub cable.
Bad points:
Backlight uneven at edges (only really noticeable with a dark screen). Stand is good, but would be nice if it would adjust 100mm taller, to clear my laptop screen.

Ships with a VGA cable - WTF is the point? If you really needed to connect it by VGA, you probably already have a cable, and it looks awful over VGA. A Display Port or HDMI cable would be better, or save the money and sell it cheaper.

FYI, If you have a Mac, note that MacOS doesn't yet support 2560x1440 over HDMI, so you'll need either a Mini Display Port-Display Port cable, or a thunderbolt-DVI adapter to get the best out of the monitor.

Manufacturer's Description

Every year or so the monitor World gets excited about the release of a new model from Dell in their extremely popular UltraSharp line of screens. Each size of model tend to be refreshed every 2 years and the refresh cycles run so that we tend to get at least one new model of some sort each year. Last year we saw the arrival of a new 24" model, the U2412M which represented the update to the 24" U2410. We’ve now reached that time of year where we have a refresh to the 27" model. The new U2713HM is the update to the very popular U2711 which we reviewed in March 2010. Where the older model was part of their 2011 range, this will form part of their 2013 range, just a little early as is the norm. Like the 24" U2412M model last year it is expected that this new U2713HM will actually run along side its predecessor as both offer quite different features and specs and Dell see them as complementing offerings, as opposed to a straightforward replacement.
