Good points:
Preconfigured for Raid 1 which was just what I wanted. This made it almost completely plug and play.
Bad points:
Case is made of the shiney black plastic that attracts the dust.

T,

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Compact, easy to set up, quiet and I think very good value. Despite the spec shown it comes pre-configured as RAID 1 which is just what I wanted anyway :) This means you get to use only half the combined capacity of the two discs because any files stored on the first drive get automatically 'echoed' onto the second drive. Big plus is that if one disc fails, you can replace it (preferably with an identical disc) and the software allows you to duplicate all your lost stuff back onto the new one. We use this network drive to share music, pictures, movies etc (actually 1 Terabyte is a lot of data). Any of the 4 PC's connected to it can source these files - some are using XP some windows 7, some wired, some wireless. Its great for storing valuable data like photos and research materials (youngun's at Uni) and each PC now has extra space. You 'see' the drive as a single disc when accessing it from your desktop and it works just like any other hard disc fitted into your computer with a drive letter you designate during the set up from E: to Z: The bundled software allows you to back up your computers to it also (Windows 7 Home does not allow you to do this. Whats good about this is that, technically, your back ups are also protected by the RAID feature on the networked drive. Peace of mind really. We have photos of loved ones which are stored safely.
Bad points:
Minor: check that both drives are seated properly before powering up - retention of the hard discs isn't great but, lets face it, you shouldn't be throwing it around really and it only came loose in transit.
Minor: Sometimes takes a few seconds to respond after its fallen into sleep mode but once restarted (by reading or writing to it) it works quite quickly over our 100 base t network.

Score 1.0/10
Good points:
It hasn't blown up!
Bad points:
It is effectively useless for Macs - I should have read further on-line before buying. The connectivity is practically non-existent and if you can get it to respond to purely sending and receiving files it is painfully (in minutes at times!) slow. It was used on a mixed (Mac/PC) system and neither was better, although others have been satisfied with PC performance. HOWEVER given the claims that D-Link make for it, either their technical prowess or their moral attitude towards their sales should be called into question. This has been on sale for at least 2 years so the bugs should have been sorted. Apparently D-Link have not provided good responses to others' complaints. TERRIBLE PRODUCT!
