Good points:
Does successfully help to take the edge off of fan noise, great build quality and removing side panels is a breeze much better than my old build and usb 3 ports work fine.
Bad points:
You will still need to replace the fans with pwm fans to make it a truly silent case and side cable management wasn't quite wide enough to store all my cables was alot of hassle trying to get them in so had to store remaining cables at bottom and front of case.

Dave, Cheltenham IT Consultant

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Well made, the door opens either way which will help a lot of users. The layout is good with plenty of space and it is very quiet. I have a couple of niggles which I have listed under the bad points. They are not horrendous but with some more thought during the design they could have been avoided
Bad points:
You cannot fit a normal fan controller if it has buttons to adjust the fan speed. The door fits too closely so the buttons foul and prevent the door from closing. You will need a very low profile controller with sliders which is annoying as my controller is now redundant.

The HDD cage is awkwardly sited in relation to the front lower intake fan. I wanted to change that fan for a quieter version which means removing the HDD cage. This is not ideal for future swap outs or changes. The cabling space for the HDDs is tight at the rear especially the power cables so be careful of that.

Score 10.0/10
Good points:
side panels are easy to access, press a button and you are in and just as easy to replace. On the whole the best case I have ever used.
Bad points:
have not found any except front door tends to swing shut but that's possibly my fault putting the base on a slightly home built coffee table.

Manufacturer's Description

The Corsair Obsidian Series 550D has been carefully engineered for noise reduction. The front and side panels are insulated with sound dampening material, and the hard drive trays and fans have soft silicon mounts to absorb vibration. The top and side panel vents are covered for noise reduction if you’re not using them to install your own fans, and even the intakes are angled to reduce air noise.
The rigid, stamped steel and brushed aluminum case holds some remarkable technology that makes it easy to build great systems. There’s built-in USB 3.0 support, and the drive trays work with 2.5” SSDs. The removable hard drive bays allow customization for extra-long graphics cards and maximizing airflow. And, the easy-access side panels come off at the touch of a button for easy upgrades or simply admiring your work.
