Confirmed purchase: 07 Dec 2010

Martin, West Midlands Experienced amateur

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
It's got a load of features that are a doddle to use thanks to the intuitive menus and scroll wheel.
The full auto is spot on every time, but I tend to use the manual modes mostly, all of that and the leather case from Canon is only a fiver...
Video qaulity and low light performance is great.
I bought this to go along with my SLRs but haven't used them since!
Bad points:
Slightly dim witted auto focus next to an slr, but then what would you expect?
That is the only niggle I've had with it in two holidays and several nights out...

Digital Cameras Buyers' Guide

Manufacturer's Description

Powered by a 10 Megapixel high-sensitivity CMOS sensor with f/2.0 lens, and molded in a distinctive stainless steel body, the high speed IXUS 300 HS has stunning looks and image quality to match. The IXUS 300 HS blends superlative imaging with exquisite style. Its angular, sporty design is crafted in high-quality stainless steel, available in matt black and blasted steel silver – for an IXUS that will turn heads wherever it’s used. A high-sensitivity, back-illuminated CMOS sensor gives outstanding image quality in a wide variety of lighting conditions. Even images taken at high ISOs feature low noise levels and a wide dynamic range. A 16:9 aspect 7.5 cm (3.0 inch) PureColor II G LCD is ideal for shooting and playback of HD movies in wide format. A tempered glass layer improves strength and heightens visibility in bright conditions.

A bright f/2.0 lens allows exceptional versatility, capturing low-light images and fast-moving subjects at higher shutter speeds. Its 28mm wide angle coverage lets you put more in the frame, while Canon’s advanced optical IS reduces blur caused by camera shake. The new HS System dramatically improves image quality in all situations. A powerful combination of DIGIC 4 processing and high-sensitivity sensor, the HS System allows full-resolution shooting at up to ISO 3200 (10MP) or up to ISO 6400 in Low Light mode (2.5MP). Combined with the CMOS sensor, the HS System enables continuous shooting at up to 3.7 shots/sec at 10MP or 8.4 shots/sec at 2.5MP – ideal for capturing the moment in fast-paced sports subjects. Switch to 240fps Super Slow Motion Movie mode and show events unfolding in breathtaking slow motion.
