Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Good scanner, printer, copier, flexible and easy to set up. Good PC/network interface, clear display, easy to follow menus and option paths. Separate ink cartridges easy to change, not too expensive. Has inclusive telephone (few multifunction machines do) as well as fax facilities, answerphone, fax storage & retrieval - all simple to use.
Bad points:
BUT - two major drawbacks - compared with previous MFC machines owned.
1. Paper tray far too complicated fo it's own good. Not possible to insert SINGLE sheet of paper without removing entire tray, opening cover, inserting and replacing whole unit. Important when sending single sheet letter on headed paper, or printing one or two items on non-standard or coloured paper.
2. Speed dial for telephone calls far more difficult than previous models. That is because, unless it is a fax number which can be retrieved easily and selected, when the machine automatically scans fax and dials, normal voice call is only possible if there are two numbers stored at each speed dial station, when the option of telephone call or fax is offered. Otherwise, only the fax option is effected.
Selecting <speed dial>, <search>, enter Speed dial code, brings up the number on display but does nothing else. Lifting the handset or selecting <Speaker Phone> clears the display.
The procedure then is much more complicated - select <speaker phone> scoll down to <speed dial>, right select speed dial control, right select <search>, enter speed dial code, number appears and dials. That is, if that annoying voice does not tell you to "Please hang up and try again. Please hang up and......" if you are not quick enough.
Previous MFC model - <speed dial>, <#> <(Code No.)>, automatic connection hands-free.
Small niggle - th colour matching at factory settings is way out. Onscreen red is printed dullish grey/purple, bright blue appears mucky brownish blue irrespective of printing medium, irrespective of program or machine used (Laptop/PC). Have to alter colour enhancement settings to Red +17, Green - 8 Blue + 5 to compensate to achieve anything like screen colours.
