Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Fantastic performance, especially with CPU and memory hungry applications like photo and video editing or 3D gaming. The high definition screen and B&O endorsed sound system (with bundled sub-woofer) are both great and the machine looks and feels nice.
Bad points:
The touchpad is the worst I've ever experienced, it's highly frustrating to get used to and is the major let down on this otherwise fantastic notebook. It's a multi-touch pad and requires a "two fingered gesture" for scrolling, instead of the traditional scroll at the right-edge. Unlike similar touchpads, there is no hardware support for edge scrolling. There are a number of multi-touch gestures, but more often than not you find the machine doing something you didn't intend. After a month, I still cannot get used to it so have reverted to using a mouse. Asus support were not helpful when I contacted them about the touchpad issues.
Certain aspects of the machine feel a bit too inspired by MacBook, but I'd rather companies like Asus stick to their own ideas and what they do best.
As another reviewer mentioned...not big issues, but the Wireless card should really have been an Intel WiDi compatible one and the machines performance is only let down by the hard disk, but this hasn't caused me any issues.
Worth mentioning that I've come across some online reviews for the N56VM that examines a pre-release model in the U.S. market, in most cases the spec has been slightly different from this one in the UK market.

Good points:
Quick easy start up. Great simplistic design. Nice keyboard design to prevent things jamming underneath the keys. Good audio quality. Lot's of storage space.
I partly bought this for gaming; it quite often manages 100 fps for online games on high settings.
I haven't used any other laptops in this price range before so I can't really compare value; I would still highly recommend it though as its done 99% of everything I've wanted so far.
If it can manage the current performance consistently for upcoming years then I have no regrets buying.
My previous laptop was an MSi model and lasted just over a year before busting due to the poor design of the hinges. This ASUS model does look a lot sturdier in that regard but hey, time will tell.
Bad points:
Some people complained about the touchpad. I'm not a fan either. I had intentions before buying to continue using a mouse anyway. There's a convenient hotkey to disable the thing.
All 4 USB sockets are crammed near the front of the machine.

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
The performance from the laptop is brilliant, with good easy to use keyboard and mouse. The 3rd gen i7 processor is simply brilliant, and powers through all tasks i've thrown at it, including rendering HD images from 3D models. The graphics processors (both the intel HD, and the Nvida card) perform brilliantly and look good on the screen. Audio performance is amazing for a laptop, even without using the supplied bass speaker. The instant on feature means you don't have to turn it off, just close the lid, and when you reopen the system is up and ready.
Bad points:
The hard drive really let's the system down. The 1Tb of storage is brilliant, but the drive is only 5400rpm, and you can really feel it holding the rest of the system up. I have changed this to a solid state drive within one week, and now the system runs beautifully. Use the standard hard drive and you will suffer long boot times and slow program loads, which just frustrate me no end. I now have the supplied drive in a USB 3 enclosure, which runs the drive as fast as it can go. This plugs into one of the four USB ports, and gives me the perfect balance of performance from the SSD I bought, and the storage of the supplied 1Tb drive. I would say this additional spend is well worth it, and transforms this into the system it should have been out of the factory.

The lack of wireless display support is frustrating, as I expected this to work as there's a top end processor used that can support this. The wireless card is not from intel, so this won't work.

Build quality could be better. I'm used to the asus u31 ultra book, which is all metal cased, and feels like a much better build quality, but this laptop does perform better than the ultra book now I've fitted a solid state drive, and has adequately given me top end desktop performance that I can take with me. It is lump of a machine, but that's to be expected with a large notebook PC.

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
The keyboard is very pleasant to use, the specs are maximal for its price range, and the CPU/GPU settings are easy to manage.
Bad points:
The sound, behind the aluminium case, is a bit tinny at higher volumes - consider external speakers for home entertainment.

The touchpad takes a little getting used to for regular laptop users, but is very responsive which is both good for accuracy and bad for registering involuntary movements - remember to turn it off (fn+f9) when typing, for instance.

My copy did not come with keyboard backlighting, despite advertising.

Score 3.0/10
Good points:
Stylish, fast CPU, silent
Bad points:
Touchpad is too sensitive and means you end up highlighting text then deleting the whole lot by accident. You can disable tapping to stop this but that defeats the point of the touchpad. This is a very bad design. Laptop also did not come as Curry's specified, having no backlit keyboard and a GT630 graphics card, not 650

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
Great sound system
Great quality screen
runs most of the latest games
Bad points:
Hard drive acts as a bottleneck to the rest of the system as it's only 5400rpm, would benefit massively from an ssd drive
