Good points:
Nvidia Optimus makes the battery last up to 3 hours when doing simple web browsing or office tasks.
The 2GB GT555m is adequate to play *most* modern games on at least medium at 60fps.
Some useful software pre-installed; namely Asus FastBoot. (Also see bad points about pre-installed software)
Great sound for something of it's size; using it as a blu-ray player over HDMI I sometimes find it difficult to tell weather it's my television or the laptop which the sound is coming out of!
The screen is one of the best I've ever seen on a laptop of this price, it is more in line with what you would expect on a £1000+ Sony laptop, the matte finish and wide viewing angles are especially impressive.
Build quality seems decent enough, but there is a slight flex in the keyboard, although it is nice enough to type on.
No complaints about heat, it is comfortable to use on my lap even whilst playing games.
Good connectivity, plenty of ports.
Bad points:
Then fan can make some odd noises at times, a little like a turbo sound on a car, but it is infrequent.
Lots of Asus 'bloatware' comes pre-installed: there is good guide as to what is/isn't safe to remove at http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/380681-asus-utility-bloatware-guide.html
The 'media keys' are in an odd place, and if you use ctrl+* shortcuts a lot then you will find yourself inadvertently muting the laptop rather than pressing ctrl for the first few weeks of use, but you do get used to it.
It is slightly disappointing that the GT555m is the GDDR3 version, rather than the GDDR5 version, the GDDR3 version is adequate for most games; but the added speed of GDDR5 would be a massive boost.

Score 4.0/10
Good points:
It feels like a good solid machine.
Bad points:
Mousepad too big, when typing the bottom of hands keep touching the pad which keep moving the mouse cursor to a different location. Very annoying.

I was not impressed by the overall performance, doesn't feel that quick, or any quicker than the machines that are worth half less.

Go to the shop and try it before you buy it.
