Score 7.0/10
Good points:
overall I like my new laptop - the screen size suites my needs allowing me to work even when I'm tired. The keypad is well-spaced so even my arthritic fingers can type with confidence, less typo's. I am using the laptop with windows 7 my preferred option it seems to run quite smoothly.
Bad points:
There are a few issues with this laptop
1 The 'Touchpad' Synaptics hasn't worked as designed since I bought the laptop. I have installed, updated and reinstalled and updated the software but to no avail - I'd like the option to install a conventional touchpad to control the pointing device - tempted to curse the cursor.
2 The advice given to rectify the above issue was short and vague, I'm not sure the technical department read my email because the advice didn't appear to answer my query
3 reviews should give a third option ' undecided' and in the final 'Laptop usage it could allow selection of two potions - I use for home/business

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Very bright and clear monitor. Windows 7 (with upgrade option) just what I needed. Good specifications. Making system backup discs was easy. Partitioning hard disc was easy too. No problems after a month.
Bad points:
I don't expect hi-fi even from a 17.3" laptop, but Acer do put weak and tinny speakers in. Could be stronger.

David,

Score 6.0/10
Good points:
Normal Acer quality
Well laid out keyboard
Still available with windows 7
Bad points:
No backlit keys
This laptop has a fast processor, but do not be fooled, the graphics card is slow to keep the price down, giving this laptop a experience index of 5.3 which is slow. So even if you replaced the hard drive with an SSD drive it would not make it any faster. If you are buying a new laptop you should be aiming for a windows experience index of 7, to make it as future proof as possible. If suppliers disclosed the windows experience index it would be easier to understand how fast each model was.
