Trend Micro Internet Security 2008

+ I think it is a good product as it manages to keep those nasty viruses out of my computer and it for warns you when you before into going into danger. It is then up to you which was you choose.

- I think that there is room to improve as with everything. Specially in the area of scanning and actually getting rid of the nasty cookies that do damage.

+ I have used several internet security software but overall i have to say this product is the best protection for on the net, so simple to use. I have had no problems with Trend micro, thats why i have purchased it for 2 years & will continue to buy whilst it is this good.

- Very intrusive . I had to make numerous changes after install to make my emails and some other programs work again as it had apparently change a load of settings.. The regular updates are a good thing but, There are so many. I have just down loaded the new 2009 anti virus software and it is even worse. I seem to have a neverending amount of updates on startup, and during the day. These invariably come in when I am in the middle of some important work and Interfere with my computer usage. The load/startup time on 2008 version was incredibly long and very annoying. I feel that as the level of protection has improved the actual program has become more obvious and annoying.

- Makes the decision regarding 'unsuitable' sites. Although these can be over-ridden it is a fiddly business. I would prefer all sites to be accessible with an option to block rather than some sites blocked with an option to open.
Often gives a false positive regarding programmes downloaded and burned to CD/DVD

+ Easy to use, straightforward, 3 user licence makes for good value for money.

- It would be useful if the product included clipboard support - what should be a simple copy/paste operation (eg manually adding a URL to list of blocked sites) is a uneccesary pain. The help could be better.

- Difficult to upgrade to 2009 version when you have a Norwegian version

- Alot of updates were not compatible with Windows Xp and caused white screen failures which inturn caused TM to have to revert to pre update form.

- I managed to download a trojan that wiped my laptop very successfully. Concerned that my anti virus did not pick it up as this is the first experience I have had of a near disaster!

- 1. when firewall is searching for computers, which are connected to the Wi-Fi network, the active window minimizes
2. If there is no Wi-Fi connection, firewall still says, that there is one or more.

+ This is superb software have it installed on all my work laptops and home and office pcs. Easy to use excellent all round.

+ As someone who previously had separate open source anti-virus and anti-spyware and firewall, I like having all 3 in the same product.
Trend's firewall prevents lots of spyware that used to get through, and the anti-spyware deals with it.
Our virus scan started to pick up a Trojan but this has also been dealt with by Trend

- Blocked sites I KNOW are safe. PC slowed down horrendously. It just wasn't right for my PC; it even prevented me showing the Firefox start page! And whatever it did to the search engine I wasn't very impressed - I searched for one thing and nine times out of ten got another- totally unrelated.

+ I have tried numerous Internet Security programmes over the past year and this is the only one so far that hasn't caused me any problems or to contact Customer Support. It appears to work faultlessly.

I've tried two others and found that they slowed my laptop when i switched it on programs didn't load or the firewall wasn't on. i've used AVG & norton. Trend was recommended by a work colleague and im glad he did. i shall continue with trend as long as im able to use a computer!

- Wonder about laptops. Always felt it was difficult to schedule a scan with irregular booting - prob needs an option to scan 30 minutes after booting.

+ It was easy enough to install and to change the settings to those required and it easy to use.

- It didn't completely de-install the previous version so it keeps asking me to instal a new version because the security is out of date and also the previous version keeps sending me pop ups telling me that I am at risk or that a risk has been averted when I just want the new one to be protecting the computer.

- Unable to "name" other systems discovered on the home network meaning you have to refer to router to see what is on home network (thats if you have logged the mac address on the router)

- Shut down my E-mail browser, To many opdates - to long time doing so. I had to remove it to get my e-mails.

+ Simple to download with regular automatic updates. Good value for money compared with the other packages on the market.

- I feel I am reminded too frequently to run a scan by the yellow warning triangle appearing on the Trend Micro logo. It appears after only two weeks or so and the scan takes an hour.

+ Ease of installation on SINGLE USER systems

- I found it VERY difficult to set up a home network on it without it "barring access" to computers. I've used Norton and MacAfee and NEVER had this kind of problem getting a home network to set up.

this was my first time purchasing trend, i fear the last.

+ Excellent product - tried teh 30 day trail against the competitors and it was head and shoulders above the rest. Parent Controls are surerb and stop any untoward web sites or pop ups - especially with kids around

- Had some problems with a program which was blocked by Trend Micro and couldn't easily be fixed or cleaned.

- No easy format for allowing sites which are non harmful. I followed the instructions from Trend Micro as far as i could and gave up. its not the first time and its so frustrating. its not an easy system to use particularly if you are not a computer geek. there were gliches a month ago with a trojan virus having been wrongly identified and a media related file having been quaranteened instead, which led to a programme not working properly. the solution given, although released quickly, was not easy to follow.

- I don't know if I'm doing the scan incorrectly, but it takes AGES.

- REALLY HARD TO UNBLOCK SO CALLED DANGEROUS SITES AND GET THEM TO OPEN

- not all quarrentined files can be sorted out even after new updates have been installed

+ It blocks and deals with threats and potential threats without requiring assistance unless the threat is more serious, so you aren't constantly having to check reports and empty vaults etc. The updates seem efficient and I like the way it operates quietly in the background. It also appears to catch everything it should which is the most important thing of all.

+ The software is very easy to install and to set up according to your own environment, and to be able to protect up to 3 computers is very good. The automatic updates are on the whole unobtrusive and are much improved on previous versions.

+ I think this one is great,doesnt take over my comp,also not too complicated

- only fault i found ,it found a trojan ,quarenteed it,told me what the trojan was but only that it was in documents.would have been nice to know what folder it was actually in.Also allthough its not part of it a firewall would be nice to go with it.

+ Easy to use (but not to install - see bad points below) and seems to offer good protection.

- Incredibly troublesome to install. Existing Ternd software refused to remove properly and kep conflicting. Had to involve IT professionals at my office to resolve.

+ Regular updates. Works in the background. Gives good feedback about what has been detected and eliminated. Appears to be effective as computer has remained trouble free since using Trend

- During installation choices are presented which require knowlege that I do not have. For example: Do you want a 32(some unit) or a 64(some unit) installation? I don't know. I just guessed. It would be better if this was automatic. Some background information to educate the user would be useful. For example: What is spyware? How does it threaten the computer or the computer user?

- Can disrupt other programmes and in one update case caused me loads of grief almost to the point I changed AV suppliers.

+ As an Anti-virus and firewall program, Trend works well.

- The spyware/malware coverage of this program leaves a bit to be desired. It is quite patchy and misses out on quite a few of these programs.

I find it necessary to use Spybot Search & Destroy to clean up the rubbish which Trend leaves behind.

- There used to be some niggly issues when you upgraded from one version to another which required uninstalling the old version and installing the new. This seems to have been addressed.

+ The daily updates. Ease of use and it dose not effect any of the programs I run unlike meny other products. The ease of instlation and that it configures it,s self very quickly with no need for imput from me.

- When I needed to down load the software for another computer it was difficult to find out how to do it.

+ It works very effectively with very little input from me. It is always there in the background and over three years has proved far more effective and user friendly than any other system I have tried, knocks the popular cheapies into a cocked hat. Spam filtering is exceptionally effective.

- Can be a little slow to download updates sometimes.
